A Dutch environmental group claims NZ has broken its climate change commitments made in the EU free trade agreement, and has filed a complaint through the European Commission. NZ govt is looking around for someone to blame. My #Cartoon today #NZpol #EUfreeTrade #ClimateChange
Cartoon. Title: “Patriot Games” PM Christopher Luxon and Trade Minister Todd McClay as schoolboys, looking surly. Luxon is saying, “Breaching the European Free Trade agreement?! What I want to know is who dobbed us in?!” McClay is saying, “Oooh, ha, watch yourself Chlöe” as she falls over his outstretched foote.w

Boom! 🚇 The City Rail Link is already helping make Auckland city centre into a 7-day city: Saturday 9pm ridership is now equivalent to pre CRL midday ridership 💥. Next month night frequencies are improving too, and getting a little later on Friday and Saturday nights, a good start. More please!

Umbrella use is an indicator sign of a healthy city. People used to actively moving about their urban spaces know that simple tools mitigate weather concerns. Alternatively, this is why you see North Americans getting soaked in the rain. They know nothing beyond car to door, door to car transit.

I see people surprised that Christchurch has the lowest tree cover of almost everywhere in NZ, but like, most of our cities are surrounded significant areas of bush: the Waitakeres, Remutakas, Town Belts etc Christchurch is in the middle of a bunch of fields

Monday morning outside Rotterdam Centraal, thousands of cyclists stream toward the station in a carefully choreographed flow. What you’re seeing is the power of systems thinking—the bicycle and train both succeed because they work together seamlessly, where each mode extends the reach of the other.

Every street is a type of road, but not every road is a street. Our cities are full of roads masquerading as streets and the results of that design choice are clear. Streets become deadly barriers to the freedom of independent mobility for everyone outside of a car.

I'm a big believer in giving more resources and funding to local government for transport. But as apart of this, they also need to become responsible for part of the cost of State Highway projects/works, so local reps stop arguing for massive overscoped projects www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/woodend-b...

There's a reason why Somerville hasn't had a traffic death in 4 years. The city isn't perfect, but they've made a concerted effort to design many streets around people and not cars. You can still drive, but you're going to have to do so slowly and while paying attention.

Somerville is intentionally making roads harder to drive on. It’s getting results. - The Boston Globe
To make roads safer, the city says, sometimes you have to put some obstacles in drivers' way.

Greens light rail plans should be much cheaper than in their policy document They've used the top end of costs identified in the Infrastructure Commissions work (95th percentile at $250m per km) Whereas 75% of surface light rail projects are $100m per km or under. #nzpol
