yeah sure whatever, let lara croft cook potato stew on her phone for 2m0s of damage resistance who gives a shit anymore
a screenshot from the upcoming remake of Tomb Raider 1. lara croft is looking at her phone in the middle of an ancient ruin, and it's showing her a generic crafting menu, and a png of saucepan of stew that apparently her phone lets her cook for "Damage resistance" if she has 6 potatoes

Across the world authoritarians want to tell us what a ‘good life’ looks like. Here’s how liberals must respond | Alexandre Lefebvre
From Maga to Hungary’s Fidesz and Australia’s One Nation, politics is returning to its oldest question: what makes a life worth living? And liberalism needs a credible answer

Bergson maintains that the nature of problems is such that they are solved the moment they are stated. Thus it is the stating of problems that is crucial, rather than solving of them. We don’t find problems, through an uncovering, but invent them, through positing. epochemagazine.org/53/bergson-o...

An old article, from ‘19. But one of the best little bits of writing I’ve done imho. It grew out of an example (or just is that example) that I cooked up when teaching Kant’s Transcendental Aesthetic to a class of 12 year olds in China. Check it out if you teach Kant, not just to Chinese children.

A new academic year is close and philosophy of #AI courses tend to treat either the philosophy or the technology as magic. I wrote The Illusion Engine (Springer, 2025) so students get both; a decade of both ML engineering and #philosophy went into it. Contact me for sample copies 🥰 #cogsci

Three panel comic. Panel 1: the white house is giving a press conference. A woman on stage proudly says, “folks— the Flatwoods Monster is real.” She gestures to the Flatwoods Monster on stage next to her. He’s chopped. Panel 2: the room full of seated journalists looks unimpressed. One of the journalists says, “no one cares about that.” Panel 3: the Flatwoods Monster hobbles off stage towards the exit. The white house staff member says, “oh great— you scared him off!”

A little Brushbuddy 🍊 #Art
An illustration of brushbuddy from witch hat atelier, a little white creature thats sort of a long smooth squirrel, it has no ears or visible mouth but it does have large eyes, a long tail and little grabby hands. The brushbuddy has his little body wrapped around a tree branch as it reaches down for some oranges that are growing from the tree.

There are 24 chapters in “Karoline von Günderrode: Philosophical Writings,” each with a translation of one (or more!) of Günderrode’s most fascinating works + a short intro to her philosophical claims. Chapter 18 has Günderrode’s Notes on Philosophy of Nature: Buy here: academic.oup.com/book/62113
Chapter abstract titled "Chapter 18 Notes on Philosophy of Nature," reading: "Günderrode’s notes on philosophy of nature comprise four texts that emerged from her study of Schelling. The introduction explains how the notes reveal the development of Günderrode’s thought in preparation for her unpublished essay “Idea of the Earth” and the published version of this work in “Letters of Two Friends.” The notes show that although some ideas and terminology in Günderrode’s philosophy were influenced by Schelling, Günderrode engaged critically with his thought and rejected certain features of his work, such as his gendering of the matter-form distinction. The four related sets of notes translated here also show Günderrode experimenting with using poetic language to express the quasi-scientific concepts of philosophy of nature."
