Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Not sure why anyone bothers with anti-AI activism when the most effective strategy would be to just point as many microphones as possible to its most vocal champions.

Sir Ian McKellen orates 'The Stranger's Case' from 'Sir Thomas More' by Shakespeare about the Evil May Day xenophobic riot of 1517 in London. This passage was written 400 years ago, but times never change. Humanity refuses to change its unwarranted bias against 'others'.

An amazing glimpse into Mesolithic everyday life: this more than 7,500-year-old ring was made from heather roots, carefully rolled up and prepared for later use. It was discovered at the settlement of Motala/Sweden, where the same material was used for fish traps. Dating 5750–5550 BC. 🧵1/2 📷me

I don't think we disdain the center-right enough. First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation; Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers; Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

Noor Inayat Khan: the first female wireless operator sent by Britain into Nazi-occupied France during #WWII. Codename "Madeleine," she maintained critical communications for the French Resistance in Paris. Betrayed/captured, she was tortured w/o revealing any secrets. She was executed #OTD in 1944.
A black-and-white historical photograph of Noor Inayat Khan (1914–1944), the heroic British Special Operations Executive wireless operator executed by the Gestapo during World War II. In a head-and-shoulders composition against a plain, brightly lit background, she faces the camera at a slight three-quarter angle. Her short, dark, textured hair is styled in loose curls framing her face. She has prominent dark eyes, well-defined eyebrows, and a composed, subtle expression that conveys a quiet intensity, resilience, and somber focus. She wears a simple, collared, short-sleeved blouse with a fine plaid pattern. The photograph is close-cropped with a rough, slightly uneven white border typical of historical prints. The lighting is direct and slightly high, casting minimal shadows beneath her features. The overall mood is serious and contemplative, serving as a poignant visual record of a pacifist who volunteered for perilous espionage and became the first female radio operator sent into occupied France.

#Indian journalist Gauri Lankesh was murdered outside her home #OTD in 2017. Known for her criticism of right-wing Hindu extremism & for mapping out/exposing the growth of radical right-wing groups. She campaigned for women's rights & against caste-based discrimination. #PressFreedom #journalism
A beautiful portrait of Indian journalist, editor, and political activist Gauri Lankesh (1962–2017), an international symbol for press freedom who was assassinated outside her home. Lankesh is sitting at a polished wooden table. She is posed thoughtfully with her left elbow resting on the table, her hand gently supporting her chin, while her right hand rests flat on the surface, showcasing a simple ring on her finger. She wears a vibrant, olive-green cotton tunic featuring a decorative center panel patterned with intricate orange and brown traditional motifs. She wears a delicate gold chain necklace with a small pendant. Her expressive dark eyes look directly at the camera with a calm, resolute, and unwavering gaze, framed by her short, cropped silver-grey hair. The setting is softly lit with a warm, natural ambiance, against a blurred background of a multi-paned window. The overall mood of the composition is solemn yet dignified.
