Could the euro currency block set up a bancor system within itself so they still have the Euro for trading outside the eurozone but can set there own monetary/fiscal policy within each country?

Trump, September 2025: Europe must stop buying Russian oil that is funding the war against Ukraine! Trump, October 2026: We're going to buy 300k tons of Russian diesel even though we export ~200k tons a day of it. Why? Reasons. I want to thank President Putin! WTAF 🤯

Putin has bought Trump with Russian diesel. Just before the US elections. Meanwhile, Russia keeps killing our children while they sleep at night. So Americans are now funding Russia’s war machine? I’m sorry, guys, but WHAT A FUCKING DISGRACE.

Interestingly, the liquefaction process could be run on electricity and the gas sold to the domestic market. From a high level this is known to be feasible, but getting the LNG producers to cooperate is the obstacle.

Perhaps a rhetorical question, but I suspect it is because it involves real material trade offs in the short term, which impacts people at the margins between adequacy and deprivation the most.

Thanks @mliebreich.bsky.social the Aust deep has been very informative. Regards the above discussion i feel @davidosmond.bsky.social model was given short shrift. David notes the need for "other" back up gen. And Aust has an existing and under utilised gas fleet that could meet a lot of this.

Brent above $85. European gas back over €50/MWh as Hormuz escalates again. A reminder: A fifth of global oil and LNG passes through that strait. Every heat pump, EV and electrified factory shrinks this exposure. Electrons made at home cannot be blockaded in a shipping lane.

North European governments treat air conditioning as an unnecessary Americanism that will break the grid. They should see it as a key driver and co-funder of vital investment in the power system. Plus they should to be in the business of helping people have nice things, instead of preaching at them.

Just worry it could be counter productive from a nationalistic perspective- you finally see the war in Moscow then decide it's time to join the military, rather than ignoring the situation. I have no evidence of this. Just a worry.

How bad was Monday's wind+solar drought on Australia's NEM? Simple analysis suggests it was the worst 1-day VRE drought since 2022. Normalised VRE generation on May 18 was 34% (ie, 66% below average), and the previous day May 17 was also terrible at 44%. Previous record low was 37% on 4/7/2023.

How infuriating to hear the chairman(?) of Asda on the Today programme implying that land use for solar farms might significantly hurt UK food production. It's nonsense. Golf courses use more than solar ever will & beef/lamb production is huge yet provides a tiny fraction of our protein & calories.

Have you got any insight about how more storage than your original model effects the split between wind and PV required? Seems wind is more difficult to get constructed and with extra storage can solar be a bigger share of generation?
