Trump, September 2025: Europe must stop buying Russian oil that is funding the war against Ukraine! Trump, October 2026: We're going to buy 300k tons of Russian diesel even though we export ~200k tons a day of it. Why? Reasons. I want to thank President Putin! WTAF 🤯

Putin has bought Trump with Russian diesel. Just before the US elections. Meanwhile, Russia keeps killing our children while they sleep at night. So Americans are now funding Russia’s war machine? I’m sorry, guys, but WHAT A FUCKING DISGRACE.

Brent above $85. European gas back over €50/MWh as Hormuz escalates again. A reminder: A fifth of global oil and LNG passes through that strait. Every heat pump, EV and electrified factory shrinks this exposure. Electrons made at home cannot be blockaded in a shipping lane.

North European governments treat air conditioning as an unnecessary Americanism that will break the grid. They should see it as a key driver and co-funder of vital investment in the power system. Plus they should to be in the business of helping people have nice things, instead of preaching at them.

How bad was Monday's wind+solar drought on Australia's NEM? Simple analysis suggests it was the worst 1-day VRE drought since 2022. Normalised VRE generation on May 18 was 34% (ie, 66% below average), and the previous day May 17 was also terrible at 44%. Previous record low was 37% on 4/7/2023.

The final report on the Iberia Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) blackout is out. Many will be blaming renewables and talk about inertia: nonsense. The cause was bad voltage control. Solar and wind could have helped but that was illegal. The fix is is surprisingly easy. www.entsoe.eu/publications...

The final report of the Expert Panel on the 28 April 2025 blackout in continental Spain and Portugal identifies the causes of the blackout and outlines recommendations to strengthen the resilience of Europe’s interconnected electricity system. It was prepared by a technical Expert Panel of 49 members, including representatives from Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Regional Coordination Centres (RCCs), ACER and National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs), and was chaired by experts from two unaffected TSOs.

Lots of questions and muddled thinking about whether the impending fossil fuel crisis will benefit coal. Key thing to understand: Fossil fuel demand will fall; fuel-switching between coal and gas is temporary, while clean energy acceleration is structural. Just look at the 2021-2022 gas crisis.
