An obvious fact, but not often spelt out. The Australian electorate is now split four ways, with (from right to left), One Nation, LNP, Labor and Independents + Greens all getting between 20 and 30 per cent in most polls.

I’ve always favoured the idea of an informal Labor-Greens coalition. But at least with Albanese in charge, that’s not going to happen. He’d much rather deal with the LNP (or, if push comes to shove, One Nation). Adam Bandt tried bargaining hard, and was successfully demonised.

Russia occupies Oleshky. Around 2,000 civilians remain and run out of food, medicine, water and electricity. Russia, as the occupying power, is responsible for facilitating humanitarian relief. Ukraine found another way in: its forces delivered ~4 tons of food by drone to 100 locations across town.

NY Times has a lengthy puff piece on Rahm Emanuel (not linking), and the absurd idea that he might run for president. The back story is that Emanuel is acting as a cutout for Hakeem Jeffries in raisng money from wealth right wing donors. I think I can guess which donors. #USpol #Aipac

The Intergenerational Report is an exercise that has long outlived its usefulness. The original motivations of the reports, when they were first legislated in 1998, was to use fears about the fiscal burden of an ageing Baby Boomer generation to marshal support for cuts in public spending. #auspol

Australia is struggling to fill critical skills gaps while hundreds of thousands of qualified migrants work below their capabilities. A longer-term migration strategy could help unlock that wasted talent.
