In 2007 when the Hold Steady was a "buzz band," Craig Finn took time out to recall Sept-October 1984, when as a newly minteed teenager (and "loser," per bullies at his Edina school) he became a fan of Minneapolis bands—Replacements, Hüsker Dü, Soul Asylum, Otto's Chemical Lounge, Outcry, Rifle Sport

Today Craig Finn is in the Hold Steady, this year's buzz band. But in 1984 he was a bullied, unhappy kid - until he found a group that showed him music could make a difference.

It reminds me of when Glee used Jonathan Coulton's acoustic guitar version of Baby Got Back and denied it, not realizing that his version changes the line "Mix-a-lot's in trouble" to "Johnny C's in trouble". It should be noted that no one on Glee could plausibly be referred to as "Johnny C".

Imagine looking at the media landscape—music, books, movies—and concluding that it would be better if it were all simply infinite reflections of yourself, if you never had to be exposed to another personality, another experience, another life. Just you, you, you. Sounds fucking horrifying.

FATALITY
A tweet from Joyce Carol Oates: overall takeaway from the Curtis Yarvin profile is that there must be millions of smart-aleck show-offy kids who annoy their teachers and go on to annoy other adults through their lives with their “contrarian” pose that hardens to a carapace over their faces; until, as adults, they still harbor a delusion that, if there is a king, or a fuhrer, he’d be impressed with the guys motor mouth and appoint him to his cabinet rather than deleting him with a negligent swipe of his wrist as Stalin did routinely.

Much of our sitting government is in office because it ignored rape or committed rape. At times, it seems like a job requirement. Much of our media has learned to ask evidentiary standards of survivors that they’d never hold a powerful man to.

Is President Trump mentioned repeatedly in the Epstein case files?

Yes. Official materials say President Trump's name appears in the released Epstein-related files. A mention is not proof of a crime.

*Trigger Warning*As hideous as the Cornell 7 case is, it's even more horrifying that the man who orchestrated it was the supposed friend of the victim, and he texted an *invitation* to this 7-hour gang rape to a group text and not a single member of that chat did anything to intervene.
