The "Zionism is racism" motion, to be debated at the Green Party conference tomorrow, will not advance the Palestinian cause one inch. But, if adopted, it would marginalise and discredit the party. There are powerful ways to confront the genocide. Toxic gesture politics isn't one of them.

A Green Party activist messages in on the 'Zionism is Racism' motion being debated today (DMs open for other thoughts from members etc)
I worry that most people haven’t read the ZiR motion properly and/or don’t understand that Zionism can mean many things. As with all conferences a ton of consequential stuff is voted through which - if they haven’t done laborious pre-reading and prep - people don’t really know what they’ve voted for. ZiR risks being the epitome of that. I genuinely don’t believe people would be so blasé or unquestioning of it if they understood how close it comes to antisemitism. Maybe we on the left are so used to false accusations of antisemitism that we can’t spot it when it’s genuinely à risk. 2 things can be true - Jewish people can hold to the deep cultural and religious status of the homeland (in place since they were ejected from Judea by the Romans) AND abhor the apartheid and genocide. It doesn’t get us closer to a meaningful peace process (or conversation in the Green Party) if we brand anyone racist who thinks that way. And I know it’s ‘politics’ but I hate this campaign telling people how to vote because it seems to take advantage of the fact that many members don’t (or find it hard to) read the MASSIVE policy proposal doc.

A rich text. Robert Jenrick, who this time last year Kemi was defending and wanted to run the justice system, depicted frequently as an unperson. The multiracial crowd celebrating Kemi, the monoracial one on the boats (are Albanians, Iranians, Iraqis and Syrians black now?)

Satellite view of Tal as-Sultan, Rafah, Oct 2023 and then 2026. In this small area (~450m × 700m): roughly 1,000 - 1,300 small apartments. Approx 3-6000 homes destroyed, with 15000-35000 people displaced or killed. And that's just one neighbourhood in Gaza #genocide

such a good eg of why political argument matters - polling previously showed over 60% support for keeping triple lock. Argue to unlock it *for something people also want* & numbers can change. (Obv can change back again if someone makes a good argument against, but either way, politics=argument)

If really trying to find one, a defence for the softness of police action in the Dover/Portsmouth cases might be their unpreparedness and lack of intel. This simply no longer holds up now that illegal disorder is a regular occurence in the Channel and key port towns

Update as BBC finally covers the story: police are 'examining' the footage and 'conducting inquiries'. What requires examination? Given a man is evidently still on board. A shocking contrast of response to the 3.5k arrested for 'extreme' placards about Palestine www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
