That’s tough, as Versailles needed to either be much tougher or conversely, softer. But I would say that Germany keeps the Sudetenland and the German speaking parts of Danzig. Perhaps keep the conscription ban, but no other army restrictions. But increase the Rhineland demilitarized zone.

voters, man...
One might expect that the pervasive unemployment and economic
hardship of the Depression would have made unemployed workers more
receptive to critiques of capitalism. Indeed, strikes and labor unrest reached a peak in the mid- 1930s that is still unmatched. Yet Norman Thomas, the Socialist Party candidate for president in 1932 and 1936, did not attract many votes. Most voters took to the Democratic Party rather than to the Socialists, electing Roosevelt in 1932 to replace Herbert Hoover and then reelecting him over Republican Alf Landon in a landslide in 1936. Among the men studied by Komarovsky, only about one- sixth showed any movement toward the left. Despite living through a massive failure of the American economy, some of the men blamed themselves for their predicament:

“I would like you to put it down in black and white,” said Mr. Adams, “that
I alone am to blame for my present state. The system is alright. It’s me. I had
plenty of opportunities to have a decent life among my own class of people.
It was drink that ruined me.”

Mr. Adams was critical of Roosevelt, whom he viewed as ruining the
country by getting it into debt. Another man said, “Depression is just a
handy phrase in the mouths of a lot of people who like to lay back and
make the world give them a living.” After one man denounced capitalism,
the interviewer asked him who he would vote for in the next election. He
replied:

It may seem funny to you after what I have said, but I’ll vote Republican.
You see, the Republicans are the moneyed people. They have got all the
money, but now they hide it away. I think that if we put them back they will start the factories going. We will at least have a steady job.

Man, I get why Lucasfilm doesn’t want to pull the trigger on Mara, but it’s sad to me that people (not you) often reduce her down to just “Luke Skywalker’s Wife.” There’s a really fascinating core to the character outside of Luke in general, and specifically outside of any romantic attachment.

So apparently the ceasefire deal includes Iran continuing to charge tolls (split with Oman) on transit through the Strait, as reported by the NYT, AP and others. If that's true, I have a hard time seeing this as anything other than a capitulation by Trump. Just abject surrender.

Threatening the destruction of "a whole civilization" is just explicitly a threat of genocide. Even if it is just a bargaining tactic, even if it is just bluster, it is a threat of genocide. Everyone who has furthered, and continues to further, the aims of this regime is morally culpable.

"But we've blown up so much stuff, how can you say we're losing?" Victory and defeat in war are judged by strategic outcomes, not by how much stuff exploded. The Iran now controls the strait; we haven't collapsed the regime, removed their HEU or stopped drone/missile strikes.

But behind the scenes, Israeli officials have conveyed a more targeted message.

In private calls to local leaders across southern Lebanon, Israeli military officials have assured several Christian and Druse communities that they could remain in the evacuation zone. They have pressed them, however, to force out any Lebanese from neighboring Shiite Muslim communities who have sought refuge among them as Israeli bombardment flatten Shiite towns, according to local Christian, Druse and Shiite leaders who spoke to The New York Times. The Shiites make up the majority of southern Lebanon.

It’s hard to tell the effectiveness of the Iranian strategy atm because we don’t know the outcome yet but: adapt more of a counterforce strategy. By hitting airbases/military targets you inflict greater casualties/costs and disrupt 🇺🇸/🇮🇱 operations, which somewhat protects your TELs/missles/Drones.

It’s interesting, we’ve been fairly lucky regarding the (relatively) small # of KIA’s so far, but the article mentions using a-10s and helos to clear the strait, which brings up the question of IRI Manpads. The war is already unpopular, and if Iran can take some larger bites out of us…

I mean, given the build up over the last few weeks Iran could’ve preempted and likely caused mass casualties/damage. I’d expect that whomever we try this again next might roll the dice and say: “the only way the Americans truly negotiate is if they are bleeding from being punched in the face.”

In the current negotiations, I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what the US is planning on doing anyways, or at least eliminate Iran’s ability to project power outside its borders. If I was Iran i’d at least consider rolling the dice, and causing enough pain to hopefully get a better deal. 3/3

Jake H @jakehufstader.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
To get better terms in any subsequent negotiation then they would otherwise. The only reasons I can think of Is that they aren’t sure the US will actually attack, or they think the US would escalate any attack and attempt to destroy the regime. But given that the Iranians aren’t folding 2/3

Jake H @jakehufstader.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
I’m curious why that isn’t on the table? If Iran isn’t going to give the U.S. what it wants then there will be war. Iran doesn’t appear to be giving the U.S. what it wants; Ergo, war. Given this it would make tactical sense to strike first and inflict as many costs as possible on the U.S 1/3
