I didn't know you could win Yom Kippur Internet, but Ray Goldfield just did it.
A post from Sesame Street, showing various Sesame Street characters. The text at the top says "Wishing you a meaningful Yom Kippur."

Below is a comment from a poster named Ray Goldfield, who says, "We appreciate his support, but Cookie Monster ain't making it 24 hours."

This - from a psychologist who notes, btw, that "Even professors find making friends anxiety-provoking"- is great. If anyone you know is starting university this week or very soon, do flick it on. It might really help and reassure them.

Why making friends at university feels harder than it really is
We overestimate how much other people notice our own behaviour and any social missteps.

One of the most common questions I see from new authors is, "Is this hybrid publishing company legitimate?" The answer is always, always "no." Hybrid publishing is inherently a scam.

Traditional publishing: publisher risks their money upfront & gets a share of the profits. Self-publishing: author risks their money upfront but keeps all the profits. So-called "Hybrid" publishing: author risks their money upfront, yet the publisher gets a share of the profits. Always a scam.

It’s publication day for I’M SORRY FOR THE BAGEL BURPS, so I’ll share my hottest publishing take: We should stop using the term “book birthday” to refer to publication day. “Birthday” refers to the ANNIVERSARY of the day you’re born, not the day itself. Nobody says “happy birthday” to a newborn!
The cover of the picture book I’M SORRY FOR THE BAGEL BURPS: A YOM KIPPUR APOLOGY. The art shows a young boy burping a big green cloud in synagogue, while his brother and parents look on in shock. The cover also includes the name of the author Jacob Sager Weinstein and the illustrator Jason Kirschner.

I’ve said this before but I genuinely think my main skill in comics, the thing that has kept me employed the last 20-odd years, is not to do with any particular skill at writing or drawing. It’s simply the ability to take a note, absorb it and come up with solutions, with minimal sulking time.

If I was going to advise a young writer to learn any skill, it would be the ability to absorb constructive criticism. Sometimes I think that’s the single most important skill in any art form.

I am super excited that my picture book about the artist Maurizio Cattelan has found a home at Phaidon, one of the world's great publishers of art books! And Sarah Matuszewski is the perfect illustrator; she's got the wild sense of humor that's essential if you're trying to capture Cattelan's work.
A brief article from Publisher's Weekly. The text reads, "Maya Gartner at Phaidon has acquired world rights to THE GOLD TOILET by Jacob Sager Weinstein, illustrated by Sarah Matuszewski. The picture book tells the real-life story of mischievous Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and the shocking theft of a multimillion-dollar toilet made entirely of gold. Publication is planned for fall 2027; Ammi-Joan Paquette at Aevitas Creative Management represented the author, and Laura Hemsley at the Bright Agency represented the illustrator."

Next to the text are photos of author Jacob Sager Weinstein and illustrator Sarah Matuszewski.
