RIP my Mam, Margaret O'Rourke (nee Perkins) who passed away peacefully today, wrapped in the love of her family & many friends. Mam was a pioneer - the 1st woman journalist on any provincial newspaper in Ireland. She was active & engaged in her community right up to the very end. RIP Mammy Kamikaze

But there is never inaction on Ukraine. Kaja Kallas herself said earlier this month that she is preparing the so far largest set of EU sanctions against Russia. It's the 24th or 25th round of sanctions against Russia. Member countries might delay it, but it won't be blocked.

Not just the last three years, but the last twenty years. European Union claims that it will do something to help Palestinians and then some member state or member state blocks action. And EU leaders basically say that intention is almost the same as action and people shouldn't complain.

21/23 There is an uncomfortable precedent here. If one group concludes it can physically intervene at sea because it believes the state is not enforcing policy strongly enough, another group can make exactly the same argument about another cause tomorrow. Maritime law can't function like that.

4/23 The distinction matters. A person does not stop being a person in distress because somebody believes they entered the sea illegally. Search and rescue is not an immigration hearing conducted offshore. The legal status of the person can be dealt with afterwards. First, you stop them dying.
