when someone dies, and yet something, or an infinite number of things,

have conjectured. There was a day in time when the last eyes to see Christ
were closed forever. The battle of Junín and the love of Helen died with
the death of some one man. What will die with me when I die? What
pathetic or frail form will the world lose? Perhaps the voice of Macedonio
Fernandez, the image of a horse in the vacant space at Serrano and
Charcas, a bar of sulfur in the drawer of a mahogany desk?

Maybe I am overextending the metaphor, but I believe I have actually seen this with compaction in my own interactions with coding agents. Some random direction or one-off idea gets reified in the compaction summary and becomes a fixation of the post-compaction agent. Anyone else ever seen this?

It's crazy how quickly we lose historical memory. China has an ok memory going back several 1000 years. Ancient Greece forgot what the Myceneans were in the space of a few 100, so much so they thought the palaces constructed by their ancestors were made by one eyed giants.
