What was he supposed to do? Not show off each little jar of leaves and their flecks of flowers or fruit rind or spices? Not let Ed lean in close to get a whiff of each one? Not offer him a cup or two to try? Not set up a little ad-hoc tasting session when Ed seemed so perilously overwhelmed by the options that he couldn’t make up his mind?

The problem, then, is actually two problems:

1) In order to give Ed the full experience, he chose not to limit his tea tasting selection to only the sleepytime ones, and now he’s wide awake and jittering out of his skin.
2) He really, really needs to urinate.

A warm trickle of liquid drips over the ball of his foot. He knows he's stiffening in his smallclothes, adrenaline and fear and proximity to Edward all forming a heady, irresistible fog.
