Waymo is not a last-mile solution, nor a transit solution. And most certainly should not benefit from any of the transit funding we won in fighting for NITA. It is a car-centric proposal that offers no real systems change, shares all the same geometry, capacity, and environmental ills of cars.

People want to talk about trains but are missing out on the transformative power of a well-organized bus network. Colorado's Bustang has knocked intercity bus service out of the park and added 18 new routes since launching Bustang in 2015. Illinois should directly copy Colorado's success.

CTA bus operators deserve more brick-and-mortar relief facilities, and transit users deserve more seamless connections. Building dedicated bus turnaround facilities at Metra stations improve both of these important issues.

This is the sort of development we should be encouraging across our city. Childcare and housing are both becoming more expensive in Chicago, we need more of them. This woman wants to create both - that should be celebrated by the city! Instead her alderman is trying to crush her local investment.

Chicago can't tax its way out of a structural deficit, but it just might be able to build its way out. Here's one example: There's been a slew of recent residential redevelopment on Western Ave south of the 606. The projects I highlighted generated 10x as much prop tax in 2025 than in 2009.
Two aerial images of Western Ave between North Ave and Bloomingdale Ave. One image was taken in 2009, and the other was taken in 2025. Seven properties have been highlighted on each map, which were all redeveloped between 2009 and 2025.A chart showing the total billed property tax by year for the seven properties on Western Ave between North Ave and Bloomingdale Ave highlighted on the previous image.

There is still opportunity here to extract concessions, such as the ability to move spaces by right when constructing a parking protected bike lane, and/or waiving fees associated with street festivals. Alders should be driving a harder bargain on this deal.

In the NITA era we need to shoot higher than “RETVRN” but sometimes there is stuff that we “forgot” how to do, or more accurately stuff we still know how to do but no one was held accountable for keeping it going. NITA can’t do everything, but there’s low-hanging fruit already on the ground.

NITA needs to ensure the Forest Park Branch rebuild is done right: a piecemeal process prolongs the pain on the West Side and could lock in the current inefficient track design for another generation. NITA must be bold in reimagining what the Blue Line can be, then implement improvements accordingly

Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive is technically not considered a highway. See the lack of crash barriers to keep vehicles from crashing onto the park paths. The ground truth is that motorists drive at highway speeds that are dangerous. IDOT & CDOT need to go back to the drawing board for new safe plan.
