I never found a menubar app I liked for GitHub notifications, so I've been working on one. It's very keyboard-centric with several Vim keybindings. If you want to test it out: github.com/jasonlong/oc...

Why do I have to pretend that I'm going to print something in order to save it as a PDF. Why do I have to engage in a little ruse.

Trying to share more @planetscale.com UI design work. This is the database infrastructure diagram comparing a simple Postgres cluster and a more complex Vitess/MySQL cluster with multiple shards.

Database infrastructure diagram showing 1 primary node and 2 replicas.

Database infrastructure diagram showing a box for VTGates and then 8 shards - each with 1 primary node and 2 replicas.

Based on price, performance, and (ahem) reliability, I’m really puzzled as to who’d pick Aurora over PlanetScale. Am I missing something obvious?

The old way: migrating our largest MySQL table takes 70-80 days and can contribute to occasional latency spikes. The new way on PlanetScale: migrating our largest MySQL table takes less than a week and Just Works.

Content moderation is a people problem not a technology problem. An ongoing concern I have is the Bluesky philosophy of treating it as a software problem (“filtering information”). I’m also concerned that people have given specific feedback about the Alice situation which you’ve not acknowledged.

A core element of right wing harassment campaigns is politicizing parts of community culture in order to “work the refs” into making a place more dangerous. They do this to media as well. Ex: they cast not harassing people as a “leftist value” and then claim political persecution when banned for it
