I shared a quote last night by Nelson Mandela about Palestinian freedom from 1997 but Malcolm X was writing about it in 1964. His last article was after a trip to Gaza. It was entitled, "Zionist Logic". You can read it here. He maintained that Zionism used religion as a cover for colonialism.

Malcolm X’s final written words were about Zionism. Here is what he said.
For Malcolm X, Zionism was inextricably linked to wider European colonialism. In a little known passage written just before his assassination, he made it clear he saw Zionism as not just a threat to P...

A low-angle comedic shot of a man (homelander in terror the dog's dream) dressed as a superhero in a blue textured suit with red gloves and cape, leaning over the camera outdoors. The exaggerated camera angle places the foreground focus on the costume while the character looks downward with a smug or curious expression. Trees and an overcast sky are visible in the background.

People who don't write books assume writer's block is staring at a blank page with zero ideas. In truth it's invariably the opposite. Writer's block is when a dazzling array of options become tyrannical, team up with an unwillingness to fail, mug you in a dark alley and stick a bag over your head.

N Saudi Arabia's Khamis Mushait prison, 200 Ethiopian men are currently awaiting execution. Ethiopia's Tigray Youth Affairs Bureau say most were sentenced in mass trials without legal representation.

Sixty-five men face the most imminent risk: three of their group were taken out on 21 April, told they were going to court but were instead then executed.

Their convictions relate to drug offences. Many had brought khat - a legal, commonly chewed mild stimulant in Ethiopia - into the kingdom, where it is illegal. They had no chance to tell the court they didn't know it was illegal, nor say anything else for that matter, because after arrest they were beaten until they signed documents they didn't understand. Court proceedings were also conducted in a language they didn't understand; and they only saw a translator when their death sentences were pronounced, the judge adding that they would he "an example to others

This is exactly why language matters: “women were given the vote” frames equality as a gift from men, instead of hard won political power extracted through organized resistance. Nobody gave women anything. Women fought, marched, strategized, endured violence, went to prison and died for it.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

Disinformation can falsely soothe anxiety. “…people tend to search for narratives that help resolve their uncertainty. In other words, people are prone to try to soothe their anxiety by finding “answers” or “truths” about the uncertainty they face.” intelligence.weforum.org/topics/a1G68...
Disinformation messengers know that false claims can be psychologically soothing

Researchers in sociology and psychology have suggested that personal anxiety can be fuelled by uncertainty about what will happen in the future and uncertainty about one’s identity or social status. When people are already in a state of anxiety, or when events happen that trigger such a state – such as a pandemic or global conflict – people tend to search for narratives that help resolve their uncertainty. In other words, people are prone to try to soothe their anxiety by finding “answers” or “truths” about the uncertainty they face. Finding comfortable narratives, even if they are not accurate, might help one feel better about potential future unknowns, even when it may be a false sense of comfort.

Those with heightened anxiety are often more vulnerable to false or misleading narratives from messengers who sense this vulnerability and intend to exploit it. Disinformation messengers can often identify people who are in a state of heightened anxiety by what they write online, such as in social media posts or chats. These messengers can curate misleading narratives that can provide false security to these audiences. It is also common to see opportunistic influencers, such as some politicians, entertainers, podcasters or even faith leaders spreading unsupported and intentionally misleading statements during times of heightened uncertainty, to lure in potential audiences who are anxious about the future.
