A key point which few have noticed yet... Tory voters have already shifted a lot. Polling shows they back Burnham's pledge to consider closer relations. And a third back joining again. This is a major problem for Badenoch's supposed "recapture the centre" strategy.

20 years ago, Anna Politkovskaya was murdered for speaking truth to power in Putin’s Russia. She exposed the brutality of war. She gave a voice to its victims. And she refused to be intimidated into silence. This cost her life. But her memory is carried by so many to this day.

It's blindingly obvious that this strategy (which would be hugely reckless given the scale of the climate threat) should entail much more action on climate resilience and clean tech innovation. And yet Badenoch still hasn't set it out. It's almost like she's not really interested in the topic.

It's been over a year. 90 page strategy documents have now been published. Multiple interviews have been given. And still no one has pinned Kemi Badenoch down on what her alternative approach to tackling climate change without getting to net zero by 2050 actually entails.
