Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying
Use of artificial intelligence
By registering with ISBN Canada, you declare that your book was created by a human author. You may use AI tools only for limited support tasks, such as brainstorming ideas, checking grammar, or formatting your book. You must not use AI to generate the text, create the artwork, or translate the book. ISBN Canada does not issue ISBNs for works whose content is primarily generated by AI. LAC is currently reviewing its policy regarding the use of AI content creation and our guidance is subject to change.

Quebec’s election saw one of the most distorted election results in Canadian history: the PQ won 46% of seats with 28% vote, while the CAQ got zero seats with over 500,000 votes. Read our write-up to see how proportional representation fixes this. www.fairvote.ca/06/10/2026/p...

This is now the middle of a city-region of 7.5 million. In any reasonable planning scenario, this pocket of houses would be getting high-density redevelopment to match what's happening 400m away. (The current compromise, allowing high-end townhouses, will lock in lowrise for generations.)

Every few months the kids & I go ride various trains in Toronto. Today’s adventure was riding line 6 and not going to lie it’s not great. The Citadus trains aren’t as nice as the Flexities on other lines and I’m fairly certain we hit every red light. IMO the above ground bits of line 5 work better.

the show didn’t start for a long time after we got in. Eventually they came on and played straight through their 39 minute album exactly note for note without a word to the crowd. After the last song they downed tools and walked off the stage. The music was so good the bad showmanship didn’t matter.
