The defence that vast sums paid to enable a football club to succeed were OK if paid allegedly not by the owner but by a foreign state is hardly attractive. Clubs should have remained owned and funded in their local communities.

Footage appears to contradict Israeli military’s account of killing of seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal in West Bank New footage appears to contradict the Israeli military’s account of the shooting that killed seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal in his mother’s arms, showing the family’s car slowing near a military post before soldiers opened fire. On Friday, the killing of the infant by Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank sparked outrage after soldiers opened fire on the family’s vehicle despite it having complied with an order to stop. Sam was killed and his mother, Daniyah Abu Haikal, and father, Fahed Abu Haikal, were both injured. Continue reading...

Dear Yvette,

We are writing to ask you to take urgent, concrete action to counter the escalation of violations against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, in particular by ending trade with illegal Israeli settlements.

As you know, on 19 May 2026 Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich instructed the Israeli Civil Administration to initiate proceedings for the displacement of the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar in the occupied West Bank, and the destruction of their property, which would constitute the war crime of forcible transfer. The community of Khan al-Ahmar has been embroiled in a gruelling struggle against erasure, displacement and state-backed settler violence as part of Israel’s E1 plan, which as you know seeks to bisect the West Bank and will make the two-state solution that we all want to seeIrene Campbell MP

By far the biggest problem with delegating judgement to machines is the people who own the machines can tune them towards outcomes they prefer but those who don't own anything can't. It's not the technology. It's a transfer of decision making power from rational accountable systems to capital.
