If you could use a pick-me-up, check out the Smithsonian’s live cheetah cub cam. The five-day old cubs are beyond adorable, and an important addition to the captive breeding program for this vulnerable species.

I have been inside 129 Illinois public libraries and don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this in Sterling: three-story stacks with glass floors to let in more light, original to the 1904 Carnegie building.

Apparently, things are only getting worse at Mt. Rainier. This is just horrifying. I have never seen MRNP so mobbed as it is this year At this point, they should just close the park entirely. There are just too many people, and the park is severely understaffed. Shut. It. Down. #parkchat

amid protests, the Grand Saline, TX city council voted 4–1 to evict Pip, the library cat, over scratching & biting. He'll now live with the librarian. a cat was installed in public office, performed public service, & was removed for being a cat. this is injustice. this is a crime. Justice for Pip!
Pip, a black-and-white cat wearing an orange collar, stands on a dark patterned carpet, looking upward with wide, alert eyes. His ears are perked up, his tail is raised, and he has a small black heart-shaped marking on his nose.

Far too many people simply hate children for existing
Neighbor blasts an ultrasonic device audible and painful only to children whenever they pass on the public sidewalk.

Was riding bikes with my daughter and a friend to school this morning. We passed a house and they both started yelling, "Ow! It hurts my ears." Really strange, right? Then I hear a voice play through a speaker who says, "If it hurts your ears, ride your bikes somewhere else!"

Now I'm angry. Literally doing nothing but riding bikes to school, probably one of the most wholesome activities a person could imagine, and...I can't even get my brain around it.

It's apparently not loud, but it is tuned to a frequency higher than I can hear. If it's low enough for my children to hear it, it's going to be almost useless as an animal deterrent. It is specifically designed to cause pain to humans and serves no other purpose.

How is this legal?

Location: Minnesota, Twin Cities suburb

One of the most disconcerting moments of living in this timeline of the world in the U.S. is that A LOT of people in this country keep acting like there's a special line that needs to be crossed for fascism to *arrive.* The reality is that we are CURRENTLY living under Federal fascism. NOW.

I’ve said it a thousand times but Stoicism and Ayn Rand both appeal to certain politicians and technocrats because it allows for them to feel virtuous in their narcissism. Casting themselves as ambitious heroes in a “hero’s journey” is exactly why @sentantiq.bsky.social and I wrote this takedown.

The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre was the murder of seven members and associates of Chicago's North Side Gang on Saint Valentine's Day 1929.
The men were gathered at a Lincoln Park, Chicago, garage when between four and six men entered, two of whom were disguised as police officers. The seven men were lined up facing a wall and shot with Thompson submachine guns and a sawed-off shotgun;
seventy rounds were fired from the Thompsons, and one cartridge was fired from the shotgun. Six of the victims died immediately; one lived for a short while but refused to identify the killers.
