Feels like a variation on a theme we saw only a few weeks back ie. 'Rod Liddle was awful & cruel, sure, but he was nice to me'. Ramped up though because Archer was'bouncy' (or, in other words, a fantasist, which media rather like as its good copy).

"But Silke Schutz, 63, a baker who called herself a “staunch AfD voter”, described the Stolpersteine as “a waste of money, regardless of who pays for them”.

“There are so many victims no one cares about,” she said, citing people killed in traffic accidents. “We had nothing to do with the war and at some point it [remembrance] has got to come to an end. But when I express my opinion, I’m insulted as a Nazi.”"

One feels the clue is in the word 'accident' (however awful/tragic and worthy of recognition) while the holocaust was a bit more, you know, systematic and remorselessly targeted, a crime against humanity thing. I dont know what to tell you, Silke.

This is just a terrible take. Large chunks of the US government have been destroyed and rebuilding is the first order priority to ensure people get the services they need. The second to make sure it never happens again. Efficiency? Nope. We need a Marshall Plan for the US.

Thought about this last week when I used the word 'militia', knowing it was more a feeling, a response to images (also unsure if militias have to be 'equipped' to qualify as such?). Protesters/activists felt like a mislabelling & I confess, I wasnt that interested in being fair in my description.

Trump told 9/11 families that he was rescued from the rubble of the World Trade Center -- an obvious and shocking lie. Here's how the New York Times reports it. This is like reporting George Wallace's "segregation forever" speech as "Governor speaks at inauguration. Some remarks controversial."
New York Times:

President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to a volunter firefighter who saved numerous people. He also added to a disputed account of his actions that day.

Real question has to be how could Trump have rated +20 on the economy? Because media never exposed it as one of his many weaknesses, I guess it was not convenient to do so. Indeed, most went along with pretending Trump is/would be good for the economy. Pretty shameful.

Yes, but there's a key difference. Biden needed Republican support in the Senate (and to a lesser extent, House) to pass his legislative agenda. Burnham has a huge majority in Parliament and the House of Lords can't stop him the way a Senate filibuster can. He could do both but he's vibing.

In June 1934 the British Union of Fascists - the Blackshirts - staged a rally at the Olympia in London. One protestor after another was singled out and beaten up by the crowd. Here's how Ronald Blythe described it.
Description of the BUF Olympia rally, at which a series of hecklers were violently attacked by Blackshirts. The sadism, Blythe writes, reached "an erotic intensity". Stanley Baldwin's private secretary expressed shock and dismay: "It was a deeply shocking scene for an Englishman to see in London."

You can kind of get 'supine for (perceived) political gain' but there's nothing to be gained politically by NOT saying extremist milita is v bad. No one in No.10 can think this lot is just 'Reform curious' & therefore 'winable'. They're organised & will inevitably be disposed towards violence.
