Congrats to Abdul El-Sayed for not just winning but being every immigrant parent's dream kid. Oh, a doctor who's also a politician? That's fine. I'll just be out here begging to write a Little Debbie comic book or whatever the fuck.

convincing people that computers are smart was a huge mistake. computers are exactly as stupid now as they were in 1975, they're just much faster at stupid.

it’s likely that it’s functionally much worse than this as these tests and surveys are in a scenario where people are being told to analyze and look for an argument many will not even try unless explicitly told or don’t even know they should

As we approach the nation's 250th, agriculture has been a mainstay, especially at the Great American State Fair. Which raises the question, how was agriculture celebrated during the Bicentennial? On the eve of our 200th birthday, a pillar of agrarian recognition was established: the Century Farm

So, I think people have the notion that I saw BIRTH OF A NATION was racist and that's why I want to remove it from the canon. That's not actually true. I kept hearing about how BOAN was the first this and the first that but as I started watching more silent movies, the math was not mathing.

you would be hard pressed to find a state that has not drawn legitimacy from a concept of the public good one of the most cohesively known Ancient Egyptian stories is a parable of a peasant wronged by a noble, appealing to magistrates on the basis of public good en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elo...

Although I suppose calling it a Berlin Wall moment (the fall of supposed totalitarianism that primarily benefits a few rich westerners who get to buy up infrastructure for pennies on the dollar while the ordinary person suffers even more) is apt but I don’t think that’s what the OP was going for

Lately I've had both Fleischer Superman, and the New York Central's streamlined Hudsons in mind, so this was inevitable. It'll be a long time before I have a model train layout again, so for now I'll settle for animating my railroad ambitions.

english isn't for cowards. if you're not saying 'torpify,' that's a skill issue. there's no Académie Française telling you what to do. if you try to type 'pallific' and freak out when you see a little red underline, maybe you're not ready to roll with the big dogs.

In 1854, a small force of US Marshals entered the city of Boston to capture Anthony Burns, a runaway slave, and return him to Virginia in chains under the Fugitive Slave Act. When a large crowd gathered to prevent this, it was Boston police who protected the Marshals and brutalized the crowd.

Prosecutorial misconduct is nearly the norm, it almost always goes undetected and un-investigated because most defendants lack the money to expose it. I believe the presumption of regularity has never been warranted, and I think they're all a bit crooked, and that's what makes the system "work".

In 2017, Criselda Vasquez painted this portrait of her parents and titled it "The New American Gothic." Last month, her father, the man in this portrait, was abducted by ICE after being in the US for 30+ years. The family is now struggling with bills. A GoFundMe has been started: gofund.me/456d8a193
