Congrats to Abdul El-Sayed for not just winning but being every immigrant parent's dream kid. Oh, a doctor who's also a politician? That's fine. I'll just be out here begging to write a Little Debbie comic book or whatever the fuck.

convincing people that computers are smart was a huge mistake. computers are exactly as stupid now as they were in 1975, they're just much faster at stupid.

really the American revolution should be compared way more to the Latin American wars of independence on a much deeper level than guys like Francisco de Miranda but you all aren’t ready for that conversation

it’s likely that it’s functionally much worse than this as these tests and surveys are in a scenario where people are being told to analyze and look for an argument many will not even try unless explicitly told or don’t even know they should

The “republic not a democracy” line was created by Robert Welch of the John Birch Society and popularized in a speech he gave in 1961 it’s explicitly anti-civil rights and made its way into the more mainstream conservatism via Goldwater and successors

As we approach the nation's 250th, agriculture has been a mainstay, especially at the Great American State Fair. Which raises the question, how was agriculture celebrated during the Bicentennial? On the eve of our 200th birthday, a pillar of agrarian recognition was established: the Century Farm

So, I think people have the notion that I saw BIRTH OF A NATION was racist and that's why I want to remove it from the canon. That's not actually true. I kept hearing about how BOAN was the first this and the first that but as I started watching more silent movies, the math was not mathing.

And, DNA studies “proving” a primitive “ethnicity” are declining in fashion because the idea that ethnicity is primarily linked to blood is also a 19c concept Current DNA work relating to ethnicity is much more focused on showing how heterogenous groups were, or how these labels don’t make sense

The idea of “Germanic people” is largely a 19th century construct (by people like the Grimms) based on early modern readings of Tacitus’ Germania Tacitus was lumping together many groups and weaving a narrative to create a foil for Roman politics at the time, it’s not reflective of reality
