Windows is adding a feature called "Admin Protection." But to understand why it's needed and useful, it's helpful to first learn some history, and what UAC did and didn't accomplish. techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microso...

Don’t sign your company domain up for vulnerability scanning services if you’re not on the security team with full approval… 🤦‍♂️

There is no evidence that phishing simulations work at all (and some evidence they may make things worse). If we're doing security that "feels good" we might as well worship an idol made out of piles of networking gear or something. Separately, punishing users is the peak of stupidity.

Microsoft might as well just shut down access to any support, what the fuck is even the point of opening a ticket for anything.

Hot take: the cybersecurity industry wastes an incalculable amount of effort "remediating vulnerabilities" in code because a library used has some "vulnerability" that can't actually be exploited in the way it's used in the application.

👇🎯 The government is not a business, the country issuing the dominant reserve currency in an era of unprecedentedly large global capital flows is not going to "go bankrupt," & excessively low marginal tax rates on billionaires are both an economic problem & a clear & present danger to 🇺🇸 democracy.

🔥 take: InfoSec vendors love selling you shiny tools. But if you don't have a great team that knows how to use them, you’re just lighting money on fire.

Some days you lead a world class security operation... Other nights you're just a digital janitor... Equal in purpose, motions are the same, as both require follow thru. Practicing one prepares you for the other. I ruminate over this often.

Anyone seen MDO quarantine files with this malware name -Phish_StaticUrl_TiMysticBlocker_Gen? It happens to excel files with email addresses in it. I've submitted dozens of them to Microsoft for review and they just say they can't reproduce the detection and close it. It's been happening for months

On the subject of walking, now would be a very excellent time to make a commitment to, as much as you can, tending to your physical being. There's a good chance the ACA will be repealed and medical services reliant on federal government money (like ERs) will be out of cash. You want to be healthy.
