Researchers from London Metropolitan University are recruiting non-binary UK-based research participants for a research study: "Thriving beyond the binary: Experiences of gender euphoria among non-binary people" Contact Jay Urquhart at giu0020@my.londonmet.ac.uk for more information
Image of non-binary flag; London Metropolitan University logo

Research project:
Thriving beyond the binary: Experiences of gender euphoria among non-binary people.

Researcher:
My name is Jay Urquhart (they/them), I am a non-binary trainee psychotherapist, studying for an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy at London Metropolitan University. I am conducting a study that will explore how non-binary people experience, understand and express joy, euphoria and thriving in relation to their gender identity.

Who can participate?
•        Aged 18 and over;
•        Self-identify as non-binary or use another term for your gender outside the male/female binary, such as gender-fluid, genderqueer, gender-neutral, agender or bigender;
• Feel able to discuss own experiences of gender identity, joy, euphoria and/or thriving.

What will happen during the interview?
The interview will last approximately 90 minutes and will explore experiences of joy, euphoria and thriving in relation to your gender identity. You will be invited to share 3-5 photographs or images that represent joy, euphoria or thriving, which will be the focus of the interview.

What are the advantages of taking part in the research?
It is hoped that findings from this study will help to increase understanding of non-binary joy, euphoria and thriving, and may also contribute to more affirmative discussions within counselling, psychotherapy and wider research by highlighting experiences of wellbeing, resilience, belonging and self-expression among non-binary people.

Had a UKRI funded grant proposal rejected at the "AI triage stage". "This AI-based triage was used only to identify approximately 50% of the strongest proposals to take forward to full human review." 🧪 #academicsky
I am writing to let you know that, unfortunately, your application was not successful.

Review process

As part of the initial triage of the 179 proposals submitted to this call, each was assessed using an AI-based review. Every proposal was read independently by several different AI models against the same seven criteria used to shape this call (including cyber security relevance, research quality and novelty, importance of the problem addressed, feasibility of the project plan, likely outputs and impact, value for money, and responsible research practice), with each model asked to give a score and a written justification with supporting quotations from the text. To guard against any one model's idiosyncrasies, we also ran a second, independent process in which different AI models debated the merits and weaknesses of each proposal before reaching a judgement, again against the same criteria. Scores from both processes were combined to produce an overall ranking.

This AI-based triage was used only to identify approximately 50% of the strongest proposals to take forward to full human review. Projects selected for funding were drawn from those that progressed to the full human review stage. We recognise that AI-assisted assessment is a new and evolving part of the review process, and we are continuing to evaluate how well it aligns with the judgements of human reviewers on this call. We will soon produce a document detailing our method, so that others can build upon it and improve it.

Feedback on your application

Your application was not selected to progress beyond the AI triage stage. To provide transparency on the outcome of this assessment, we are sharing below the scores (out of 5) from each of the two AI review processes described above, together with the mean score across the two processes.

The 2022 UCU workload survey suggested that the burden of additional unpaid work is proportionally bigger for part-time staff than full-time staff (who are already doing the equivalent of 2 unpaid days per week). Will be interested to see what this year's survey says, in light of this.

They mean that disability is now less a mark of shame and more of an identity signifier: a way to connect to those with similar experiences. The UK is very invested in the idea of 'benefits scroungers'. It's been a predictable way to get people riled for decades. The Telegraph wants to go back.

The “Woke DEI”’Cambridge university ignored 58 complaints about Nathan Cofnas from Black students while he was there according to writer and former PhD student Jill Damatac
Screenshot: instagram of jilldamatac

BRITISH
VOGUE
When Dr Arday became a professor, British anti-Blackness awoke from its nap - it's never a long slumber. Nathan Cofnas, a university fellow and a "race realist" - whose beliefs include the spurious claim that in a "true meritocracy" Black people would "disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment" - accused Arday of plagiarism. Cofnas had a history of anti-Black behaviour at the University, with 58 complaints filed against him by Black students claiming racism. Cambridge cleared him of wrongdoing, citing "free speech". It strains credulity that Cofnas's racist scholarship found a place at Cambridge at all, yet as an alumnus of colour, I can't help but feel unsurprised.

.
@jk_rowling
, who is smeared for sex realism, calls me a bad word for applying the same logic to race

quote tweet by Nathan Cofnas replying to JK Rowling who said:

More than one thing can be true. Nathan Cofnas is a racist. No argument there.

Also true: Arday claimed to have been non-verbal until the age of eleven. He span a false narrative about being autistic and mute, then learning to speak and write so well he gained a PhD. What harm did he do to parents with children who're genuinely non-verbal, by selling them false hope?

For the record, the proportion of professors at Cambridge who are Black is 0.4%. The number of Black people in the UK population is 4%. So the number of Black professors at Cambridge is ONE TENTH of what you would expect in a meritocracy.
