Earlier this month, the UK government published results of its Cyber security breaches survey 2025. It found a shocking 4 in 10 businesses and 3 in 10 charities experienced a cyber security breach or attack in the last year. Are charities doing enough to guard against the risks?

There have never been more female CEOs in the Fortune 500. The 2020 list includes 37 female CEOs, including the heads of Gap, UPS and General Motors. It still only represents 7.5% of the total. But it’s a symbol of lessening discrimination. New leadership styles. Better business.

Sierra Leone has reduced maternal death rates by almost 75% since 2000
Line chart showing maternal mortality rates in Sierra Leone from 2000 to 2020. The rate was 1,680 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2000 and declined steadily to 440 per 100,000 by 2020, a 74% reduction. Data source: UN MMEIG (2023).

I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of consistently naming any variables that you plan to combine/compare across forms/time. So that when it comes time for an urgent analysis, you don't have to spend gobs of time mapping and renaming variables before you can begin that analysis. ❤️

The idea of dividing the year into 72 microseasons was the inspiration for my book Light Rains Sometimes Fall. I mention this because according to that calendar the year starts on 4th February – halfway between equinox and solstice – so now would be a good time to start reading it.

Paying employees to cycle to work reduces emissions obviously, but also helps reduce healthcare costs, helps reduce the size of car parks needed, reduces fatalities, reduces wear and tear on roads, clears up traffic for emergency services and public transport. Win win win.
