The Englishness debate is so weird. The issue is that England, the biggest part of the union by x5, is invisible in voice & governance. Mid 2000s Regional devo might have helped and regional mayors get us a bit closer. It needs a way to have a ‘thriving English culture’ like the Wales goal.

The change the automotive industry is facing is massive. Not mentioned in the comparison with Australia is that South Australia seeing this coming 15 years ago did a state wide psychosocial wellbeing & resilience program so people had agency & ready to deal with the change. It used PERMA x society.

Why have we lost pride in a country that has so much going for it?
Our feelings about Britain and its institutions have changed profoundly in 15 years — but there is one area of life that still brings us together

This 👇 is risk communication. There is a lot of very good information about how to do this effectively. Ditto disaster warnings from places who do this regularly and well. We should learn from it and fast.

This experience gap is why we see a really odd finding in the most recent World Risk Poll. a big majority of people individually are VERY concerned about the impact of the changing climate on their country in next 20 years. But also believe general societal concern about it is far LOWER

This is fascinating - in most countries happier people are less worried. BUT not in Egypt, Pakistan, India, Nigeria and the Philippines - big low middle income countries. I wonder if there is a very real chance of things going wrong with serious consequences?

This enormous industrial heritage archive going back 250 years is fascinating tracking innovation and economic transitions. You can see periods in history, often ten year spans, where there are rapid technological changes that at the time we can see felt unprecedented but they occur regularly.

But something odd is happening. Globally, how many hour you work doesn’t change your likelihood of harm all that much. But in high income countries that changes. A lot. We think this harm is much more likely to be to do with mental health than getting physically injured. ⬇️

Your next hydration break evidence drop 16% of people globally say they’ve been harmed at work in the last two years. This is about 610 million people. The World Risk Poll helps make this visible in many places where official data doesn’t exist yet.
