I read the study just now. It is a truly stupid paper, and a very poorly designed survey. As far as I can tell, the question asked to determine whether the scientist is "techno optimist" did not distinguish amongst the forms of technology. For example, heat pumps, wind power, photovoltaics,

The word ‘torrid’ is much underused, imo. Torrid affairs are almost always exclusively between actors, artists, or occasionally, writers. For everyone else (eg: She had a torrid affair with a quantity surveyor from Leeds) the word transforms any sentence into pure Alan Bennett.

Just seen Badenoch speech on Burnham. Unfortunately it's spot on. Burnham happy to sit next to Corbyn but chucked Starmer out asap. Labour have given their opposition some lethal material.

Sticking up for the kids here. Too many in the replies blaming the kids, but they are the teachers - surely it's down to them. The kids can't be expected to just know this.

You of all people should know that kids can't be expected to just know this. They have to be taught, so isn't this all down to the adults and teachers?

Many don't get charts. I once took a simple bar chart of numbers of patients seen within 72hrs - one of our main outcome measures - to a managers meeting and they cast it aside without a glance. They don't do maths.

The reality is that the wealth goes to a very limited group of people. The Musks, the Zuckerbergs, the Altmans. None of them have ever shown any interest in sharing wealth. Not even if they have a trillion. Instead, they invest hundred of millions to prevent fair taxation. /4

Since everyone’s arguing about speed cameras, let’s keep a couple facts in mind: 1) Research show that camera enforcement is much more popular than the media implies – in suburbs as well as cities. Lesson: Don’t conflate a few angry car owners with “public opinion.” (cont'd)

Automated Traffic Enforcement Is More Popular Than You Think
Cameras that ticket drivers who run red lights and speed are effective and widely popular with city residents. So why are they banned in so many places?
