There’s lots of empty land in and near Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster, and for that matter at the very spacious estates of the tech oligarchs and the nice campuses of the tech companies. Those seem like easy places to put data centers.

People focus on how dark money prevents voters from learning who is sponsoring the speech they just heard which prevents them from evaluating it. While this is quite bad, creating a pathway for anonymous money to enter politics also shifts which part of the party coalition are most influential.

I wrote this because most journalists facing this pressure can’t. The paper we count on to check authoritarianism spiked an investigation into the Democratic Party because the party’s lawyers threatened to sue. Holding authoritarians accountable starts with holding your own side accountable.
