Tim Curry as Pennywise in IT. My house has a sewer grate in front and each Halloween I have a red balloon attached to the grates. The parents react, not the kids.

I agreed to write a letter of support for someone and I am doing so much procrastinating vs write the handful of sentences of praise needed. Praise I’m happy to give!

I’m seeing a lot of posts about talking to your sons in light of the Cornell article. And yes. Talk to your sons. Here are some things you should say, based on anti-violence research about what they need to hear:

MPD still can’t answer questions about where all the money went. And now, Frey is directing them not to testify before the Council. What are they covering up? What don’t they want the public to know?

I had my first mani pedi in ages today. Close enough in experience to my favorite Park Slope spot and close enough in distance to my current home that I’m just going to say I have a new mani pedi spot. I haven’t messed up the mani yet - I’m impressed with myself.

This is helpful context as to why my beer choice at Leinie Lodge (yes, yes, not the current name) today felt right. I once exclaimed in wonder and excitement at seeing it in a Queens liquor store and the employee and my date cocked their head in confusion at enthusiasm for Mich Golden Light.

roasted eggplant with tomatoes and mint
Nothing says Last Day of Summer like eggplant bruschetta, except thick rounds of eggplant are the bread here and the topping is so much more exciting than just tomatoes.

I entered five categories in the Creative Activities baked goods competition at the State Fair - and I won second place for blueberry muffins!!
Close up of my second place blueberry muffin in the case in the Creative Activities building. There’s a tag with my name, Minneapolis, and the contest class number 1025 with a red “2” flag in front. Me in front of the Creative Activities building on drop off day. I’m in a blue dress holding a dish bin full of pastry boxes filled with my submissions. This was taken after about 1.5 hours in line. There was another 30 min or so to go.

While I missed the fun of in-person voting today, the ease of being a permanent absentee voter is unmatched. My partner and I filled out our ballots weeks ago, and I could say to campaigns that called, “I’ve voted!” Plus, he ended up working out of town today and would have missed voting.

Some sausage making info: the engine where all the people are is built to withstand a bomb, so they are relatively safe. You dont want to know how many vehicles they hit each year cos ppl play chicken and how many derailments there are. The real risk is the cargo

I have real concerns about how moderate Craig will vote in a seat held by progressives for almost two decades, but we should fear putting someone at the top of the ticket with demonstrated animosity towards other statewide candidates. Will she deliver votes to reelect our AG? Do her supporters care?

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7
11:42 AM • 6/25/26 • 670K ViewsJill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?

I really enjoy EB White's take on New York and New Yorkers.
An excerpt from EB White's Here is New York
There are roughly three New Yorks there is first the New York of the man or woman who was born here who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence is natural and inevitable second there is the New York of the commuter the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night third there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something of these three trembling cities the greatest is the last the city of final destination the city that is a goal it is this third city that accounts for New York's high-strung disposition it's poetical deportment it's a dedication to the arts and it's incomparable achievements commuters give the city its title restlessness natives give it solidity and continuity but the settlers give it passion and whether it is a farmer arriving from Italy to set up a small grocery store in a slum or a young girl arriving from a small town in Mississippi to escape the indignity of being observed by her neighbors or a boy arriving from the corn belt with a manuscript in his suitcase and a pain in his heart it makes no difference each embraces New York with the intense excitement of first love each absorbs New York with fresh eyes of an adventurer each generates heat and light to dwarf the consolidated Edison company

Klobuchar only getting 67% of the vote while being essentially unopposed for months should be a massive wake up call to her and the DFL. Stop voting for Trump cabinet members and judges. Loudly support the LGBTQIA+ community. Start actually campaigning. This is an election, not a coronation.

After canceling in-person auditions for HAMLET due to the blizzard, we rescheduled them for AEA members and had non-union actors submit videos. In the end, we watched 178 video auditions and 16 in-person. 194 in total! That number keeps growing every year, which is exciting (and hard).
