I had a leftovers/rejects party the day after the submissions. I made a 4-in version of the cake so people could get a sense of the concept. Folks were great at boosting my confidence (re: ego) before reading the comment cards. I already know the judges and I fundamentally disagree about brownies.
Leftover blueberry muffins in a bowl, ginger scones on a platter, brownie bites (cut up edge pieces) in a footed dessert dish, brownies on a covered jadeite cake stand, chocolate chip almond cake tops on an appetizer plate, and a glimpse of the 4-in chocolate chip almond cake with its chocolate glaze on a small covered jadeite cake stand. All displayed on a wood buffet. The top of the 4-in chocolate chip almond cake with chocolate glaze displayed on a jadeite cake stand, the tackle stand cover to the side. The cake has been halfway cut up, with six small slices. A close up of the inside of the chocolate chip almond cake where you can see the chocolate buttercream filling.

Also submitted: ginger scones, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate chip almond cake (with chocolate buttercream filling and a chocolate ganache-ish glaze). Looking forward to my comment card(s)! Only the top 25 get one, so if any of the others receive one, that also feels like placing.
The leftovers/rejects: blueberry muffins, chocolate chip cookies, and ginger scones are piled on a quarter sheet pan atop a sheet pan of brownies too poorly cut to submit.A chocolate chip almond cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and a chocolate ganache glaze on display in the Creative Activities building. About 1/3 of the cake has been cut out to taste and display the inside appearance. There’s a tag with my name on top of the cake.

I visited the Louis Vuitton Foundation last month, and walked by the Grand Palais later that day. It was very cool to visit and take in both the building and the view. It has an exhibit about the building itself that we loved. His buildings make me pause and note the surroundings more completely.

Today is election day, and it is also roast the gravy turkey day. I am still figuring out my convection oven. I lowered the recipe’s temp by 25 degrees and checked after 90 min - the 13.5# bird was already passed 165 degrees. I'll lower the temp even more next time, I guess?

My partner once heard the tether line run and went out to see what he was chasing: he had a turkey feather while two turkeys were perched on the fence, out of reach.

I ordered this beach blanket before a beach vacation, and it didn’t arrive in time. I decided to keep it, and it’s been a great backyard addition - cat approved.
A backyard with long grass and a sidewalk down the middle, fenced in with a black chain link fence. There’s a stripped linen beach blanket and a blue body pillow in the foreground. A black cat with a red collar lays on the body pillow facing the camera and an orange cat sits facing the street. Both have harnesses connected to a lead. There’s a book on the blanket in the background.

MUCH ADO closed Sunday. Load-out was yesterday. The dressing room unit was picked up this morning, and tonight I finally emptied my car. It is no longer a mobile storage unit for the theater company. However, a deep clean is needed for all the spilled potting soil from the planters.

I haven’t quite known what to do with myself, so I took to the kitchen and made fridge pickles and started new batches of rhubarb cordial. Plus meal prepping from the freezer, including baking off farmer’s market cottage bacon for egg bites. Hopefully, I’ll finally make those freezer burritos.

A friend hosts a wonderful Easter brunch and lets me bring dessert. This year I faced a fear and made meringues. Turned out lovely! Paired with lemon curd, whipped cream, and raspberries. But the corn flake milk chocolate nests I did on a whim were the real crowd pleasers.
View from above of a wood and glass coffee table. In the center is a small mint green cakes stand with a dome that has chocolate Easter nests with mini Cadbury eggs. There is an app plate with three more nests piled, and a dish of more Cadbury eggs. There’s a bud vase with flowers on a blue coaster, too. A level view of the cake stand, overflow nests plate, and the dish of overflow eggs with a painted white fireplace in the background. A medium green cake stand with a dome lid containing meringue disks. There are undisturbed dishes of lemon curd, whipped cream, and raspberries beneath the cake stand. Spoons are at the ready next to the curd and cream. An owl dessert plate with half a meringue disk with lemon curd pooled over and across, a dollop of whipped cream, and three raspberries.

The Guthrie announced they’re doing A DOLL’S HOUSE next season and every time I see that title translation I hear my favorite professor telling our class that the proper translation is A DOLL HOUSE, meaning all the characters are dolls. I find the play even more tragic with that lens.
A screenshot of a selection from an essay in the Washington Post that is similar to my professor’s lecture on A DOLL HOUSE.

ESSAY
BEING AND SOMETHINGNESS 'A DOLL HOUSE' FIRST REHEARSAL REMARKS
February 25, 1990

By Zelda Fichandler

The play is called in Norwegian "Et Dukkehjem" -- "A Dollhome" or "A Doll House," but not "A Doll's House," as it is usually translated. The difference is important, for Ibsen titled it with a clear intention. It is not that Nora is a doll and that this is her house, a toy for her to play with. The point is that the house is a house for dolls, so that, by implication, all the people who live in it partake of the aspect of miniaturization, of dollness. Not just Nora, but all of them.

The two Colorado blue spruces in my yard are coming down tomorrow. Lots of mixed feelings! They have defined the house and yard for probably a half century or more. But they’ve been in clear decline since before I bought the house, and with them gone I get to remake the yard with something new.

Folks, it’s so good. I only went up to Lao Spicy on the Drunken Kaopiak Sen. We had the dumplings (pan-fried on their recommendation) and the Lao Sausage Platter. The house-made sauces are fantastic. Kind, community-oriented owners. It's dangerous it's on a possible route home from the office.
7 pan fried dumplings on a silver platter with green onions sprinkled over and a black plastic cup of amazing dipping sauce. Not pictured: the also amazing house chili sauce recommended to go with. What a lovely Sunday! A walk with a friend to get coffee and visit Tropes and Trifles, plus the new shop Ferris. Movie at the Riverview with another friend and my mom. Home to freezer meal prep. The cats were cute while sleeping. Now to finish a book. Brilliant all around.
A picture of a book recommendation at Tropes and Trifles that made me chuckle:

Title: A Lady of Rocksgrove Manor
Author: Kathryn Moon
This book had one more orgy than I really needed, but it made sense for plot reasons.
