For those who haven't followed the news the Fiscal Year 2024 NIH funding bill approved by the House Appropriations Committee has unprecedented cuts: An overall 6.2% cut, a 2.6% cut in NIGMS, a 2.9% cut for the NCI & the NIAID budget slashed by 22.9%. Look at projected paylines under this vision 🧪

I tend to believe that we need to invest heavily in building bottom up support systems, resources, processes in academia to level the playing field before we impose new panopticon-like top down standards and procedures. Otherwise every new standard will serve to select for the already privileged.
