Now in press one of my last PhD projects! We traced the neurobiological profile of fMRI BOLD signal variability, a measure that has been related to age, behaviour, disease status, but had not yet been fully contextualised within the brain's multiscale architecture. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I once saw a (very interesting) talk about sleep in which the speaker started by saying that we don't really know how to define sleep, and then proceeded to operationalize sleep in flies as basically periods when they are still for a long time. This got me thinking...

Completely agree w/ everything @avramholmes.bsky.social lays out here. fMRI has a big role to play in helping link across scales of measurement, neural organisation and species. But for that to work, we need to incentivise the growth and development of scientists that can translate across domains.

First figure of our preprint, depicting brain maps of seven identified structural connectivity communities bridged by fifteen overlapping nodes at the spatial interface between communities. Structural communities are depicted as nodes on a circular graph while the overlapping regions between the corresponding communities are highlighted along the edges. The seven communities are: (1) Dorsomedial cortex; (2) Limbic; (3) Visual; (4) Ventral attention and visual stream; (5) Somatomotor; (6) Insula; and (7) Frontal pole.

Important work on the caveats of working with surface MRI data: a step closer to disentangling artificial vs biological sources of spatial autocorrelation. To add, these considerations are also essential for those working on MRI dynamics: space <—> time are intertwined concepts. Way to go Jayson! 😊

The default mode network (DMN) is implicated in cognition and behavior. Here, the authors show that the DMN is cytoarchitecturally heterogeneous, it contains regions receptive to input from the sensory cortex and a core relatively insulated from environmental input, and it uniquely balances its output across sensory hierarchies.

Great resource for those interested in applying/ teaching how to use PLS on neuroimaging data. While it is "easy" to just throw your matrices into PLS, it is important to understand what PLS is doing (and to *always* look at the distribution of your data).
