Coffee thought his morning, and question asked without any sort of research before putting it out into the wild wide web: I wonder if there are statistics for how many EVs go into thermal runaway and and up being a large sized BBQ. If there are, I wonder what that % is.

Carrot Weather remains one of my favourite weather apps ever. It also has geographical challenges where it asks you to find landmarks on a map. Pretty fun. Today’s Lake Ontario challenge notes just add to the love.
Lake Ontario
Great Lakes, North America
Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes by surface area, sitting along the border between the United States and Canada.
Fun fact: Ontario the province was named after Ontario the lake, not the other way around. So renaming the lake because it sounds too Canadian is not just stupid, it's chronologically stupid.

There's something amazing about being in a peloton of 40+ bikes on the cycle lane heading home. Every driver at the front of a queue of side-street traffic... every person peering out of a bus window... every passer-by gets the message: "Oh wow, yeah, people are using this stuff". Never gets old.
My view travelling home by bike: Loads of people cycling on the South City Way cycle lane on Victoria Road in Govanhill in the Southside of Glasgow, during evening rush hour. A woman in front of me wears an incredibly fetching gold coloured helmet.

The lights on Redford Road near the Dreghorn Link give safe access to the Dreghorn houses but are difficult for bicycles due to steps. Could the steep step be smoothed out for bicycle access?

In the same area could the Dreghorn Link be provided with a secure cycle lane, there is plenty of room as one lane is hardly ever used.

The footbridge over the Dreghorn Link has been closed for a long time, could this be opened to allow safe access avoiding Redford Road from Bonaly and Colinton in general.

The broken paving on the continuous footway at Dalmeny St / Leith Walk has been repaired with tarmac, undermining the whole design. It now looks like pedestrians and cyclists are crossing a road, rather than drivers crossing a continuous footway.

This morning’s coffee thought: There are roasters all over the world that coffee enthusiasts order from to try their beans. Big names. Great roasts. I have tried 8 roasters in Edinburgh, 9 including E. Lothian. The carbon footprint for shipping retail coffee all over the world must be massive.

Went on a 70km gravel/road ride winding our way to Dunbar last night with some friends, then train back. Been a hard summer - illness and life getting in the way of riding. A healing type of ride, with night riding, singletrack, and good vibes. £11 for a fish supper, that included DOUBLE FISH. 🤯

Replace London with any UK city. Weather has less to do with active travel uptake, and safe infrastructure is everything.

Having this discussion last night with a friend. What happened to the ultra rich just throwing money at infrastructure, civic buildings, parks, bridges, etc. and putting their name on it as a form of forever prestige - instead of hoarding / buying elections. I think about this often.

This is cool— apparently @adamtranter.bsky.social transformed a street parking space into a parklet (mini park/public space), but the municipality removed it because it wasn’t a mother vehicle. So he did this. Nice job. And dumb interpretation by city hall. Via Marco Te BrommelStroet on LinkedIn.
Pictures of a mini trucka-like vehicle with a little park/park bench on the flatbed in the back. So essentially a mini park on top of a vehicle.

So this is a Facebook response to a petition to extend a cycle lane in East Dunbartonshire #BearsWay. It's honestly quite stunning. I think this should win an award. Seriously.
It is naive to think that any extension could be made because road geometry does not allow it. Cyclists are unregulated. Commit many road irregularities and have done for years. The Highway Code now demands, and rightly so for safety reasons, at least 1.5 meetres between cyclist and car/lorry/bus/ articulated lorry/emergency vehicle, when overtaking.
Of course the Scottish government want a national cycle route. Of course the Glasgow cycling groups want a complete network but such road hungry structures defy the majority of road users, most of whom contribute to the economy 24/7.
Cyclists from Glasgow can take the train to Milngavie from the city if needs be to get out to the countryside.
Very much the minority will ever buy or cycle. You need to really analyse the demographics of road users, and cyclists. And publish it for us.
We in Milngavie would be looking for the transport modelling in detail of road use, and cycle use in the council area. We are the tax and council tax payers.
Sorry but this is cloud cuckoo land thinking. Cyclists contribute little to the economy in this country. They do support the cycling industry, the cycling clothing industry. Let's see the stats for cycling casualties and the cost for hospital treatment. E-scooters are unregulated, dangerous and a meance to many.
The road surface would be dug up, more white lines, more visual difficulties with who goes where. More pot holes between different road surfaces.
The cycle racks at bust stops are never used. So, the cost of their installation to taxpayers is completely wasted.
The townscape into Milngavie would be further made negative by the brutal design by Sustrans and others of the cycle lane infrastructure which is not sensitive to the environs.
Emergency vehicles cannot pass easily along Milnagvie Road be
because ... (Continued on next thread entry)
