Someone linked the "9 games that shaped who I am" in the AH moderator slack. Entirely predictably, everyone who has done it so far has included Age of Empires II, except for one absolute lunatic who put Age of Empires III instead.

Out of curiosity I decided to watch Troy: the Odyssey (2017). One minute into the sack of Troy and I'm laughing out loud. Troy looks a bit like the classicising architecture you'd see in central Berlin today. A head is being randomly chucked around, and no soldiers are wearing any armour.

Working at the library today and a woman carrying her loud baby was looking obviously flustered as she was trying to multi-task and an older lady told her that she could go look around for books, use the bathroom, and take a breather while she watched the child. It was nice!

I'm genuinely so excited that I can finally start sharing HOW TO SURVIVE PREHISTORY with you -- starting with the cover, which features a very obscure dinosaur you probably haven't heard of bookshop.org/p/books/how-...
The cover of HOW TO SURVIVE PREHISTORY fetaures a stylized image of a Tyrannosaurus walking along the rocky banks of a stream, roaring. Two very adorable chicks are by its feet.

What was the procedure and ritual for a duel?
Prior to the actual meeting, most of the particulars of the duel would have already been agreed upon by the seconds. By the mid-to-late 18th c., much of this was becoming fairly standardized, and even more so entering the 19th c. when published codes started to exist, so we can speak to generalities at least, even if some specifics would vary.

Maximum eclipse this evening. As long as compression doesn't squash them out of existence, at least three stars are visible in this image. The Moon did not look quite this red, but I boosted the brightness slightly so the southern portion could be seen better in the image.
A lunar eclipse showing the full Moon nearly in red, but the very top portion still in white where the Earth's shadow did not cover the lunar surface.

Questions of "canon" are always tricky in any fandom, but the fantastic @kiwihellenist.bsky.social sets out on a journey to explore the different influential versions of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey! #Skystorians buff.ly/8IHoMdr

What actually counts as “canon” in the Trojan War/Odyssey, and who do we owe our modern “Homerverse” to?
There's no canon in the sense of a version that's authoritative. There are however versions that are extremely influential.

Hubble's Lagoon in Visible & Near-Infrared - From Judy Schmidt (geckzilla.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/25KNrPV
Another version of the anniversary dataset, this time with visible and near-infrared imagery combined into a single image. The pinks and cyans in the visible light version give way for near-infrared wavelengths by shifting into greens and deep blues. Now the near-infrared wavelengths comprise all the reds and oranges of the image. The gas and dust fade like ghosts, becoming nearly transparent, revealing many hundreds of stars once hidden from view.

One of my favorite things to do is to combine unusual or complicated datasets together.

ps - The original news release for the near-infrared only image is here, just in case you missed it. hubblesite.org/image/4151/news_release/2018-21

Data from the following proposal comprises this image:
ptical and infrared imaging of the Lagoon Nebula (M8)

There is also a WOW page providing direct access to data:

Orange: WFC3/IR F125W
Yellow-Green: WFC3/UVIS F658N
Green-Blue: WFC3/UVIS F656N
