Last week I had the amazing opportunity to spend time in La Push with my entire bicoastal team where @trudilebron.bsky.social facilitated a productive, vulnerable, 2 day session to equip us with skills to be better teammates and public servants. So grateful for the opportunity to grow.

Over the weekend my 7yo got sick. It’s the first time since her goals of care changed, and it was weird… just sitting with her, sleeping by her bed, not rushing to the ER. No kids come with manuals, but when your kid is on hospice... there’s no soon-to-be-bereaved-mommy blogs to turn to.

Last week I turned 29, and for the first time in years, I didn’t hate my birthday. This year I’ve built community, showed up for others, and allowed others to show up for me. I’ve made choices I’m proud of, and let go of things that don’t serve me. I’m not sure what this year holds but I’m ready.

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

People love to think OCD is fun and trendy but tonight I purposely overbaked my chicken by 5 minutes, checked the temp in 5 spots to make sure it was hot enough, then once I plated it I microwaved it for 60 seconds and I still can’t eat it because I’m afraid it’s not cooked.

The current family room is some chairs, a TV, a row machine, and some oatmeal. It feels more uninviting than the sterile hospital room. And the oatmeal box has been there since our first admission April 2023… not what you want to find at 12 hours at the er, all sweaty, and the cafeteria is closed.

The org in question is the Spouses Club of Lewis McChord, a non-profit at JBLM where I serve on the board. The hospital is Madigan Army Medical Center where my daughter most recently spent 2 months but is frequently admitted to.
