I appreciated spending time with students at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane today, especially Grace and Eli. They shared their experience with cellphones at school, and how taking them out of classrooms changed their school.

Good news: More than 800 Washingtonians who were set to lose their Apple Health coverage today can keep it – and keep getting the health care they need. A federal court temporarily blocked the Big, Bad Betrayal Bill from cutting health care for immigrants who receive Supplemental Security Income.

As co-chair of the U.S. Climate Alliance, I'm proud of this partnership. We’re facing a hostile federal administration, intent on taking us backward — the governors and mayors that signed this agreement today are not going to let that happen. Together, we are a force.

Disappointed not to be at Climate Week events today. I was at SeaTac airport for hours waiting for my flight, before it was eventually canceled due to the chaos impacting many east coast airports. I’m excited about the work we’re doing as a state.

My office released the following statement today:
We reviewed the Seattle Police Department’s after-action report on the Seattle Center shooting that blames delays in informing the public, in part, on “distractions” from elected officials. It’s not clear which elected officials are being referred to. But as we’ve made clear in the past, the only contact the Governor and the Governor’s office had with SPD on the day of the shooting was a 9:00 p.m. briefing via Teams that the Governor was invited to attend. That meeting took place approximately three hours after the shooting and lasted about 20 minutes. The Governor had no communication with anyone at SPD that evening other than that 20-minute briefing, until the press conference later that night.

I want Washingtonians to know about the upcoming impacts of the Big Bad Betrayal Bill signed by Donald Trump last year. Starting Oct. 1, H.R. 1 drastically limits the Medicaid eligibility for lawfully present immigrants. Before the state took action, 14,000 lawful immigrants were set to lose...
Timeline of major HR 1 related Apple Health cuts

Outline of state with text: Approximately 200,000 Washingtonians could lose their Apple Health coverage by the end of 2027 as a result of H.R. 1.

Timeline with 2025, 2026, and 2027, with each circle marking a month.

July 2025 H.R. 1 is signed into law, setting the stage for approximately 200,000 Washingtonians to lose their Apple Health coverage by the end of 2027.

January 2026 H.R. 1 revokes tax credits for all immigrants who are below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

October 1 2026 Approximately 11,000 lawfully present immigrants, including refugees, asylees and victims of human trafficking, will lose their Apple Health coverage.

January 1 2027 Approximately 600,000 Washingtonians will become subject to H.R. 1's work requirements. An estimated 200,000 will begin to lose their Apple Health coverage. Most adults will also have to renew their Apple Health coverage every six months instead of once a year, creating additional deadlines and administrative burdens. Certain lawfully present immigrants above 100% of the FPL will also lose access to tax credits.
