If you're feeling tired, remember you've lived through the greatest global pandemic since 1918, and you're currently living through the end of the rules based social order and the stable climate that has sustained human civilisation for almost 12,000 years. It feels hard because it is.

It blows my mind that America has the least efficient healthcare system in the world and our govt is busily trying to replicate it in NZ. The only winners from this are private healthcare and insurance companies - and we are 100% buying the bullshit they're slinging.

Possibly, here's a novel idea, we could do more to build Northland's economy by investing into companies in Northland, supporting start ups, giving out science and innovation grants - just basically anything that would provide a better return than building a massive new state highway 70 km away.

I like Whangarei, I want Northland to be a more successful place and lifted out of poverty. But spending $9 (?) billion building 26 km of new highway which finishes more than 70 km AWAY from Whangarei (total pop. ~100,000) is not a sensible investment. www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/09/01/w...

One for all you train nerds... the gate to the Vatican train station, only opened when a train goes through which is not often.
Brick wall with large iron gate in it. A papal coat of arms is carved in stone above the gate. A few trees and blue sky in the background. Behind some green fencing railway tracks are just visible leading up to the gate.

I look at both National and Labour refusing to raise fuel taxes - both short-sighted in different ways. I just wonder if as well as struggling with the cost of living, New Zealanders just actually want the government to be adults, to confront difficult issues, to think about the future.

Afaik, TPU's data (ratepayersreport.nz) just comes from LGOIMA requests. It's wild that instead of just asking WCC - their customer - for up-to-date accurate data, Deloitte used old misinterpreted LGOIMA data from a TPU website instead. That's exactly what an LLM would do.
