Supporting victims includes making the vulnerable feel safe. There is no way for the powerless to be safe when a democratic social order encourages or looks the other way or celebrates the institutions of exploitation

I hate that downtown Open Streets in Ann Arbor shuts down for the year just as it’s starting to get less muggy out. This shouldn’t be a summer-only thing. Crisp fall weather is a great time to be outdoors. Bring on the fire pits and hot drinks! #A2Council

Wild that Zverev isn’t on this list and he managed to win two grand slams this season.

An image of a man in a grey shirt, standing in a doorway, embracing another man in a red shirt, both man in a posture of grief. Affixed to one nearby wall is a calendar. On another, a sign that reads "blessed."

The Djokovic loss did not surprise me but this upset does. Not really a Tsitsipas fan and the loss of Fils so early in the tournament is a major blow for fans. But maybe good news for Shelton, Fritz, and or Tiafoe?

This is just brazenly Islamaphobic propaganda. This is what Bari Weiss has turned CBS into.
Screenshot of an X (formerly Twitter) post from CBS News (@CBSNews) dated August 31, 2026. The text reads: "As the nation prepares to mark 25 years since Sept. 11, 2001, Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, may be facing the risk of renewed scrutiny and fresh political attack." Below the post text is an embedded link card from cbsnews.com featuring a photo of Abdul El-Sayed speaking into a microphone at a podium, wearing a dark suit jacket over a black shirt, with campaign signs reading "FOR US SENATE" in the background.

Rank and file Republicans are turning against LGBT acceptance and GOP politicians are leaning into bigotry in both rhetoric and policy. But it is you, the progressive queer or ally, who needs to open your mind and consider other people's feelings. news.gallup.com/poll/710810/...
Most of the recent changes in LGBTQ+ attitudes have occurred among Republicans. For example, in 2021 and 2022, 55% of Republicans said they favored legal same-sex marriage, but today, the figure is 37%. Among independents, support has dropped six points, to 67%, while Democrats’ views are the same as in 2022 (87% in favor).

You can’t just do the job of enacting policy. You have to PERFORM the role as well. You have to tell people what you did and how it helps them. Again and again and again.

Holy hell Katie Wilson is on fire here.
Most of all, we must tell our own story.

It's time to discard the notion that Seattle is "dying." The forces pushing that narrative never wanted Seattle to succeed. This isn't a call to ignore challenges, but to tackle them with a sense of possibility, because we've seen what our city feels like when we pull together.

Cities are humanity's greatest invention.

Where opportunity, creativity, culture and democracy come together. Cities are where people who are different from one another learn how to live together. Cities are where innovation happens because people encounter new ideas, new neighbors and new possibilities. That's always been Seattle's story, and we have an opportunity, a responsibility, to write the next chapter.

Four years ago, Biden gave a speech warning about the dangers to democracy and the networks refused to air it because it was "political." I wonder if Trump making a partisan case for relitigating the 2020 election and calling for his political opponents to be jailed is going to be "political" too?
As Biden warned about democracy’s collapse, TV networks aired reruns
While broadcasters typically air a prime-time address by the president, they determined that this speech was more ‘political’ than newsworthy for live coverage
