“Here’s what we found: Every additional 100kg of vehicle weight was associated with a 6% increase in odds of pedestrian fatality. Every additional 10cm of height was associated with an 11% increase in odds of pedestrian fatality. The relationship was even stronger in lower-speed environments.”

The energy transition has to keep going fast cstu.io/92aa79

The real risk in Australia’s energy transition isn’t going too fast – it’s going too slow
The transition is going to happen. Our choice is whether we design rules around consumers and new technology, or cling to a model built for coal and gas that will soon be irrelevant.

Paris & @annehidalgo.bsky.social are praised for their visionary, progressive city-building, but they don’t get nearly enough credit for just being really pragmatic! Everything they’re doing is common sense. They’re moving a lot more people with less space while cleaning the air & cooling the city.
Imagine all the space these people on bikes would be taking if they were in cars? Imagine the pollution, noise and emissions. Multimodal cities and urban greening is just common sense.Paris is still a tight city with many streets that are just choking with cars. Despite the remarkable progress, there’s still plenty of work to do making the city work better with fewer cars and more choices.
