A field experiment in Ecuador finds that a small number of children with persistent behavioural problems lower the achievement of their classmates. The effects are larger for younger children, increase with the number of poorly behaved children in the classroom, and persist for at least two grades.

New from me: Until recently, the gap between comfortably-off and just-getting-started could plausibly be crossed in a decade or two of hard work. Growth in asset prices means that’s no longer true: even a lifetime of striving doesn’t offer a realistic prospect of feeling you’ve “made it”.

Studies have shown that the conditions that caused the 1976 heat wave would likely lead to a comparable event being 3°C hotter today. And before anyone chimes in saying that's not much, the last ice age was only 6°C cooler than pre-industrial global temperatures! 8/
"Greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from burning fossil fuels, means British summers have already become hotter. Our new research shows that a comparable event to 1976 would be 3 degrees hotter today," he said. "Our summers are becoming increasingly unrecognisable."

"...women receive substantially lower potential ratings despite receiving higher performance ratings... lower potential ratings do not reflect accurate forecasts of future performance: Women subsequently outperform male colleagues..." pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/...
“Potential” and the Gender Promotion Gap†
By Alan Benson, Danielle Li, and Kelly Shue*
We show that subjective assessments of employee “potential” contribute to gender gaps in promotion and pay. Using data on 29,809
management-track employees from a large retail chain, we find that
women receive substantially lower potential ratings despite receiving
higher performance ratings. Differences in potential ratings account
for approximately half of the gender promotion gap. Women’s lower
potential ratings do not reflect accurate forecasts of future performance: Women subsequently outperform male colleagues, both on
average and on the margin of promotion. We highlight two mechanisms driving the gender potential gap: strategic retention and stereotyping. (JEL J16, J31, J71, L81, M12, M51)
