Social con—*unintelligible screaming* It costs upward of 15k to give birth in a hospital given things go fine. It’s twice that for a C-section. And what if there are complications that require an extended stay? If the baby is a preemie and needs to stay in NICU, that’s 3k-10k PER DAY.

As someone who has worked in AI for a number of years now, I can say with certainty there’s no bigger snake oil in the space than AI-powered AI detectors. There’s literally no approach worse to detecting AI than using AI.

What chills me more is that the Atlantic article's author not only scanned Kundieza's work, but also scanned 25 years' worth of Caine Prize awardees to check whether they were human. A prize for African writers. It feels like the literary equivalent of doing a non-consensual genital check.
