October 9 is Nautilus Night, part of the International Cephalopod Awareness Days. The nautilus is a very unusual looking creature; a cephalopod like the squid or octopus, which grows its own shell. They are known as “living fossils,” having survived relatively unchanged for millions of years. 🧪🐡🐙

Happy #WorldOctopusDay! A year ago today I started my Octopolis Tarot deck. Here are some of the pieces that I've drawn since that I'm most proud of.

Staved into the sandy bed are two shell-tipped spears. A woven net lies strewn about, one hooked end of which is held in the arm of the female octopus.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

A Flamboyant Cuttlefish (Ascarosepion pfefferi) walking on the sea floor. Two thick arms are moving on the ground like legs, with the other arms raised a typical pose for this species. Its two centre arms are raised with their tips curled, and its other four arms pointing out front. It has its papillae raised, giving it several large bumps, including two above each eye. It is a mix of vibrant colours, with magenta and purple on its arms, yellow on its arms, fin and around its eyes, and reddish orange and red and black all around. The sea floor is off white and you can see the grains of sand because it's so zoomed in.
