Decent people said: “The extreme #transphobia and appalling behaviour of #BridgetPhillipson is truly sickening. #AndyBurnham can’t shrug this off as one bad apple. Every Labour councillor, candidate or party member found to have such despicable views must be thrown out of #Labour immediately.”
Quote from a Guardian article, 15 Oct 2026.

Reads Bridget Phillipson MP, chair of the Labour party, said: “The extreme racism and appalling behaviour exposed by this investigation is truly sickening. Nigel Farage can’t shrug these latest revelations off as being a few bad apples. Every Reform councillor, council candidate or party member found to have made such despicable comments must be thrown out of Reform UK immediately.”

Haha. You can't even see the ideological content of your models of the world. I suppose it's not bleak in your world. Ignorance is bliss, and all that. Have fun with your life.

The War on Drug is more than half a century old, and it's been being lost every day of those five decades and more. It's like they looked at Prohibition, and decided that making lots of Al Capones had been a) the point and b) useful.

Hopeless. I'm tired of going into bookshops to look at their #comics section (invariably labeled "graphic novels" grumble grumble) and finding tons of Manga, a small amount of rubbish US comics, even fewer good US comics, the occasional British title, and nothing European.

Miller favorably compared what Trump insiders privately call his “war on terror” against the US left to COINTELPRO, the FBI’s notorious campaign of surveillance and dirty tricks targeting Black civil rights and other civil society leaders
Privately, according to two people familiar with the matter, Miller has (favorably) compared the Trump administration’s actions on this to COINTELPRO, the notorious Cold War-era FBI surveillance programs that routinely violated fundamental constitutional protections. But it’s a little more than a year of his iteration of MAGA COINTELPRO, and Miller wants more – a lot more. The sources add he’s berated other senior government officials about why more left-wingers haven’t been arrested or criminally charged, and why it is taking so long to dismantle certain liberal nonprofits; Miller has told colleagues that it would be an “existential threat” to the Republican Party if the Trump era were to end without the obliteration of the political network connected to liberal billionaire George Soros.

This is now common in various countries at this late stage of mainstreaming of far-right politics For centrists, the threat is no longer the far right which is treated with respect, as a reasonable contender for power The threats are the very extreme right and anything left of centre

Whatever. Your lack of self-reflection, and your insistence that modern North American conventions should be the norm for everyone else, is quite something. Insisting on the concrete realism of your culture-specific ideology is very illuminating. As I said, I see you. I see your supremacist ways.

Bluesky's Head of Trust and Safety handed his block list to a bot. 1,271 people blocked in eleven days. He says it never looks at who you are. Blocks are public, so I checked. Trans people were blocked at 2.5× the odds of everyone else, for posts of the same harshness. 🧵
Title card reading "Who the autoblocker blocked". Three figures: 1,271 accounts blocked in eleven days, against twelve in the two years before. 46% of the readable bulk-loaded accounts had never replied to, quoted or mentioned him this year. 2.5× the odds of being blocked for a trans-identified account, against others who wrote equally harsh posts. Below, a quote from Aaron Rodericks, 1 Oct 2026: "These do not factor in your bio or your identity. I have zero clue who you are."

It's worth noting that fr.wikipedia defines America as an English term for the USA, and l'Amérique as the continent. That's because across Europe it is one continent. Obviously, that South Americans largely speak European languages other than English has reinforced that. 2/2

Northern and southern America (plus central America, of course) were long known as America, a single continent. The convention of dividing the continent, an entirely political exercise, started in North America in the 19th century, spreading to the rest of the English-speaking world in the 1950s 1/2

That is true (hence the division of the Eurasian plate into continents). But plates have never been the basis of continental naming. India isn't on the Eurasian plate; the Caribbean is on neither the North American plate nor the South American plate; Kenya isn't on the African plate.

The US is shorthand for the USA, and perfectly acceptable because it is clear what it refers to. It's not pedantic to make clear whether you are referring to the country (USA) or the continent (America).

Americans in the north of the continent who insist that Americans in the south of the continent inhabit a different continent are engaging in a discourse designed to other non-anglosaxon culture Americans. 2/2

Mark Nixon @fatbadger442.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
The division of the continent in North and South America is not conventional internationally, and only very common in the anglo-saxon world. Crucially, it's not recognised in the southern part of the continent of America, whose people consider themselves Americans, not South Americans. 1/2
