Indie game dev is basically playing the lottery, and I feel terrible for devs who don't seem to understand this. Yes your game may be good, but all that does is raise your odds of success from 1% to 3%. Your game will probably fail because the deck is stacked against you. Mine too. It sucks.

I recently re-read Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness, and a specific passage stuck in my mind. For context, two characters are discussing the corrupt, bureaucratic capital city of Mishnory. Here it is.
