This is why I unsubscribed a few years ago - they kept making great shows and then cancelling them after two seasons. I won't go back, no matter how good people tell me the latest thing is, until I see evidence of them stopping doing that

An interesting perspective considering Amazon has laid off 30,000 corporate employees in the past year as part of an AI efficiency push instead of giving workers 3-day workweeks because AI can do some of their work.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

I really like the Villeneuve films - they're objectively not as good as the book, because that really wouldn't be possible, but I think they're probably the best films that it's possible to make from that book.

OK but in fairness, in the UK a "terrorist act" could mean holding a piece of cardboard with "killing kids is bad" on it

a picture of a wind farm that says

WIND POWER

Crossed out: It generates clean energy, lowers your power bills and gives back to your community

instead (in larger not crossed out) There’s a 10% chance it will kill off the entire human species in just a few years!!

We used to call hypothetical thinking machines AI, but then conmen started calling the plagiarism machines AI so the hypothetical thinking machines had to be called AGI, now the conmen are calling the plagiarism machines AGI. I am starting to think the conmen may not be being entirely honest.

your brain processes sound and sight at different speeds. it resyncs them before handing it to the thinking bit. The "Horizon of Simultaneity" is when you're far enough from something that the diff in the speed light/sound naturally syncs the processing, reducing cognitive load. It's 15m from you.

That assumes that post-LLM PRs are, on average, equal to pre-LLM PRs. Difficult thing to determine, though as a Microsoft customer, I can certainly say that quality is not improving.
