Especially when it leaves capitalists claiming ambition as their exclusive property. They get to promise transformation, the left gets cast as the person explaining why you shouldn’t want things. What a fucking surrender.

Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

The fact that many of the executions and death sentences in Iran don't make headlines isn't because they have stopped. So far in 2026, the Islamic Republic has executed at least 1001 Iranians, including 41 in September. Currently, more than 100 people are facing the death sentence.

For all their faults, states at least have the potential for democratic accountability and control. Corporations and wealthy individuals do not, and the state should crush their power before it is too late.

This is why the AKP cling to power, by the way. Westerners are quick to assume that they steal elections and suppress dissent, but they don't know that until very recently, AKP municipalities were incredibly responsive and quick to act. Foreigners (and sheltered Turks) have this impression...

Maybe art is a response to the times we are living through. Maybe the most-celebrated art is something that is both crafted with excellence and resonates with the moment. (To quote Brecht: "In dark times Will there also be singing? Yes, there will be singing. About the dark times.")

Yeah, so the critical thing here is while the billionaires didn't *cause* the problems the US budget and balance sheet is facing right now, they paved the way to the system that led to it! It's not even about the revenue, it's about holding them responsible.

my case for why the Chinese public is so pro-AI. tl:dr: Chinese digital life much more censored in the last decade plus, but also has practically improved, unlike US. AI is seen as another tool along those lines, plus the govt shut the billionaires up. foreignpolicy.com/2026/08/11/a...
