again - I absolutely hate AI precisely *because* it's actually useful, because that means it will stick around, and that means it's worth fighting if you genuinely think AI isn't useful for coding today, then you are just wrong, I'm sorry to say

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source. Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update. getartcraft.com/apps

i wonder why python jupyter notebooks are still so common and thus py the standard lang for scripting. Haskell could be really nice for it. or another strongly typed language that's not annoying to use. i guess too few people have pushed to persuade the masses to use something else

it's so strange how like at least 60% of the time when someone makes a claim about "making invalid states unrepresentable", what they actually mean is using a representation with many perfectly representable invalid states that are just hidden behind an abstract type and a smart constructor

screenshot of a tumblr post. op says "having a friend that's as insane about the character as you is great because you can say something like "he's so chewable" and not only will they agree, they'll say something equally as insane like "he's like children's medicine". a person responds, "vitamin designers discovering fred flintstone." op responds, "the only valid reply to this post everyone else go home"

my favourite part of programming is focusing on individual functions and their bodies. it's so fun to write functions. i don't want to think about the high level ideas a lot.

you know, i don't love that there is a massive difference between let x = blah(); f(x); g(); and { let x = blah(); f(x); } g(); in rust

Yeah having an LLM write all the rust for you and not actually learning it makes it very easy to violate the implicit contract between rust and the programmer that creates all the good stuff and safety guarantees that we use rust for.

i assume there aren't many (any?) tutorials/resources on code generating inductive types with dependently typed languages because few people are interested in dependent types for writing performance programs instead of proof assistants. i should learn how to do it to fill that gap

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano
