Literary fiction is coming. It is going to revolutionize the economy. We know that China has already got a start on literary fiction. We can’t afford to be left out of the literary fiction economy. Think of your kids. They might already be engaging with literary fiction.

paradox para = beyond, outside of dokein = to think oxymoron oxys = sharp, keen mōros = foolish Happy Birthday, John Ashbery!
PARADOXES AND OXYMORONS
This poem is concerned with language on a very plain level. Look at it talking to you. You look out a window
Or pretend to fidget. You have it but you don't have it. You miss it, it misses you. You miss each other.
The poem is sad because it wants to be yours, and cannot be. What's a plain level? It is that and other things, Bringing a system of them into play. Play? Well, actually, yes, but I consider play to be
A deeper outside thing, a dreamed role-pattern, As in the division of grace these long August days Without proof. Open-ended. And before you know it It gets lost in the steam and chatter of typewriters.
It has been played once more. I think you exist only To tease me into doing it, on your level, and then you aren't there Or have adopted a different attitude. And the poem
Has set me softly down beside you. The poem is you.

Yeah, it’s the same thing with the National Endowment for the Humanities. We used to repeatedly explain that to people back when I worked there. But DOGE came in and canceled all the grants and fired everyone who worked there because it was “efficient.”

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."
From a Reddit forum, a photo of a can of coconut milk with a blue label, papyrus text and a flip-top, on a sidewalk. It seems to hover because there's no visible shadow. The pavement is sort of unevenly colored, with bright spots, and the grass along it is green and lush.

I’ve had this open as a tab for a while; our int’l touring earlier this year seems to have permanently wrecked my sleep so this morning at five I began exploring this open tab, clicking around. A remarkable, meticulous work: of art, of literature, what to say…give this your time.

There are many layers to this poem. It is a metaphor for grief & how the dead remain part of our lives. That grief walks behind us, follows us wherever we go, but cannot speak. The poem builds to that brilliant final line - ‘They are victims of love, many of them’ #poetry #poemoftheday

Here’s something: if blue whales emitted their song out of the water, the effect would be so loud, it would cause immediate hearing loss in humans. Alexis Pauline Gumbs, for Orion’s issue THE DEEP DIVE, writes on voices (both human and whale), listening, and frequency.

A couple of weeks ago I passed by a middle school and a bunch of kids were doing a walkout in the middle of the day, chanting and waving anti-ICE signs. Sure looked like a protest to me, but maybe I missed something.

It's time. Colin, the comrade running the shelter-in-place food program I'm working at, told me that this week he's had to turn down asks from schools to supply food directly to their sheltering families. The reason? There's not enough money coming in for that amount of food. Let's change that.
