If it were the spring I would assume that was an aggressive male that thought he found an enemy in the reflection of the window. I'm baffled by that being fall behavior.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

I have just learned of #Boktober, the marvellous brainchild of @kamakru.bsky.social, and goodness, it might as well be tailor-made for me. I have in actual fact already been thinking of returning to the hens again, so this feels doubly fortuitous. 🤩🐔

Person one: Taught my kids how socialism works. Let them trick or treat while I stayed home. Then took all their candy. Socialism 101.

Person two : The socialism part is where the community came together and fed your kids for free. The capitalism part is where you made them do all the work and stole from them.

I was making potato and leek soup and the recipe asked for five potatoes cubed. Even for potato soup, 125 potatoes seems a little excessive.

People talk about how dangerous Utah is because of the rattlesnakes, but ime they don't want to bother people. The most scared I've ever been on a trail was when I saw a badger. He wasn't dangerous, but he was puffed up and hissing and I didn't expect him on a very busy trail!!!

I see them often on the trails in Utah and I jump so far out of their way. People describe the experience of stepping on one as excruciating, blinding pain. But I do see them dragging away spiders sometimes and that's really cool!

If you eject people from the ACA because they don't file insurance claims, you get rid of the people that subsidize the health insurance costs. That's a way to destroy Obamacare without admitting you're trying to destroy it.

I love the idea of a bird moving back into rural areas from the city and all the birds there hate him because he's so loud and simple

[quote posting]
Ethan Mollick @emollick • 2022-08-10
Birds give up the complexity of song for volume in noisy places - so they sing louder but less interesting (to both humans & mates) songs in cities. When traffic noise in San Francisco fell due to COVID, birds began to sing more complex, quieter songs like they did 50 years ago!

E.g., 95k people die of measles worldwide annually as compared to 155k people die of Salmonella infections worldwide annually. I know you know this, but I really can't let it go.

E @eruzich.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
I'm so bothered by this clip. At the very least he needs to compare annual worldwide deaths from measles to food-born illnesses, which is 95k to 1.2 million (not 3 to 1.2 million). But also, food-born illnesses constitute hundreds of different bacteria so it's still a bad comparison.

E @eruzich.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
That makes it sound like he means 1.2 million deaths in the US each year, when it's only 3,000. Although maybe he's striving for that number.

The part of this article about trans people that are forced to have a biological marker on their driver's license, but also get tickets for having an appearance that doesn't conform to the marker is so similar to the discussion in "The Origins of Totalitarianism" by Hannah Arendt.

But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,
